Verizon begins sending customers early upgrade promotions

I don't think it's really fair how VZW is handling this promotion, but if they're making it a game, why not play along?

right and whats the worse thing that happends, they say no? lol just keep going and going like the energizer bunny if you want the upgrade it will work sooner or later :)

I confirmed that the # in video works as I just upgraded to the X after just upgrading in April to droid 1. They asked if I got promotion told them I seen the video for early upgrade, verizon is happy to honor that promotion. ETA 2days..

2 days? Sucks for me... I was told I'd get mind the 6th.

After dozens of failed upgrade attempts thorugh 611 and a few VZW stores the 800 number in the video worked! I'm only about 8 months into my 2 year contract with the original Droid.

The join date below my name shows June 2010. I don't live in the forum so I don't post much. I do a lot of searching to answer my questions instead of just posting the same question that might have been discussed many times prior. I decided to join since I was very interested in the Droid. Thanks for making me feel welcomed.

Wow first post flaming? did you sign up in the forums just to post that? nice welcome!

I tried to call the 800# just now, same thing. They have a way of tracking by pulling up my account/cell# and see if they did infact send the text message. They didn't see the promo code sent therefore, I have to go into the store to show them the text message. Strick two!

Seems like that is how it should work. I'm sure VZW monitors this forum (and others), but certainly monitor the upgrades they're handing out and if a bunch of people have been doing this scheme in the last few days red flags probably went up. Some simple re-training would do the trick. Would be curious if others who try this run into the same as you.

Question - when you do this, is your next upgrade date 2 years from today or do they tack 2 years on to the date of your original update?

When you upgrade, you're essentially doing a whole new 2 year contract, so your NE2 is from the day you upgrade/extend.

I tried the 800# two times and nothing.

I have had my droid only since this last Feb, not sure if that has something to do with it or not?

Bummer, not that I need the new one either.

Interesting, I'd expect the catch that they'd add 2 to your NE2.

I'm still going to wait for an option without Motoblur. Hopefully there will be one.

Agreed, otherwise VZW and/or the manufacturer are losing money (you sold a $600 handset for $200, and got 6-8 months of $30 data to offset...now you've given a new $600 handset for $200....).

If that's the case, that should be a big red flag. That tells me these phones will be obsolete in a matter of months (which may be true for 1/3 the population getting LTE in Q1). On the other hand, people are having to jump through hoops to get the upgrade.

Must be nice to have money burning a hole in your pocket....I have a feeling there will be some buyer's remorse in a few months.

Can't make new topic so posting this here (sorry for the off topic). Trying to find out something for a fried.

Looking at the Droid 1 on Amazon.com and it's listing the price as $0.01 with a new contract. Automatically thought it as fake but it's listed under the Prime membership items.

What do you all think?

I can't click on the link for whatever reason, but it doesn't seem all that crazy to me. Droid is now considered in an End Of Life status, so I'm sure they're wanting to get rid of whatever stock they have.
