Verizon Planning a Big Data Plan Price Jump

The good news is, you don't have to change your plan if you don't want to. Hopefully people will remember this and not allow their plans to be changed without first looking into whether or not it will benefit them.

This is true. I'm contemplating a switch because I think my current 3 GB plan is too much for me most of the time, but 1 GB might be cutting it close. If I bump down to the new 2 GB plan, I'd save some money, would have some buffer, and even potentially rollover what I don't use.

A little clarification on the Safety Mode

jackiescivic, do you know what happens to promo data if you go with one of these plans? I currently have 16gb promo data (4gb/phone) and the 18gb plan. If I were to opt for one of their new data plans, would I then lose my 16gb promo data?

I would imagine so. If I ever leave the More Everything plan, I will lose the extra 1gb I got when I got the S5. Typically they say it's good for life "as long as you stay on the existing plan"

I remember reading that promo data would not be eligible for rollover. So I would assume you would still be able to keep it even if you changed plans. It just won't roll over.

I think this promo was for as long as the line remains active so it appears it should remain but it could also be it has to be the same plan.

Thanks Gremlin. If that is the case then maybe they wouldn't take it away.

I just made the switch. Went down to the "Small" plan - 2 GB data with rollover. Decided not to go for safety mode as lately I haven't even come anywhere close to my 3 GB threshold. I may end up with some rollover each month. It won't take effect until my next bill cycle...this bill cycle just started and this month I may have a need for more data use (I'll be hitting the road next week and the GPS seems to use up a good chunk of data). I left the 3 GB plan in effect till then.

And, I saved myself $8/month to boot. :)

I think we're going to stay put on the 6GB plan for now. We don't appear to have hit even 5GB since I added my wife to my plan. Will be keeping an eye on it, but doesn't make much sense to me to pay more each month for a buffer that we don't quite need.

If my boys had wifi at their dad's I wouldn't need as much data. Once the summer is done and I get them home our data usage will drop a ton. But, having the rollover bank each month will help when the boys go to their dad's on the weekends.

What would be killer for me would be if I can get the carry-over data on my 6GB plan. That's right about where I'd really need to be. Before this announcement, I was considering jumping up to the 12GB plan and living more like I did when I had unlimited data, but that price jump is even higher now.

I wouldn't mind the cushion of an extra 2GB a month, but I just can't justify the extra $10/mo when I'm not hitting 6 as it is. We've got great wifi at home and don't get out much. Haha!

Alright...Now I'm shopping. They're suggesting I go down to the 4GB plan for a savings of $28 and change per month. Strangely, when I select the 8GB plan, it still shows a potential savings of $11 and change...If that's truly the case, maybe I will jump to the new plan. Just worried their math is wrong. Line access of only $20 on the new plan where it's $40 on my current plan? What gives @jackiescivic?

Also, just below the button to switch, I see this...
Please note: Bonus / extra data available with your current plan will be lost.

Looks like you got lucky @droidprincess.
