Verizon pulls Android 2.2 "FRG01b" update for DROID 1, future updates uncertain

So what I'm hearing is they're incompetent ****wards and can't make the promised upgrade work.
And don't give me crap about they ain't obligated to blah blah blah. They said we'd get it and the reason we don't have it is because they can't make it work. Maybe they should have got it to work before telling us about how awesome our phones would be (including the Flash they told me I'd have in jan '10) when the update happened.

What we need to do is take to Twitter and Facebook and start bad mouthing Verizon. It's the only power we have.
I don't know about the rest of you but I don't like being told I'm buying something then find out it's not quite that then listen to people tell me I can't complain because it's still better than whatever.

Please send me a PM and I will provide with a number to call and we can discuss this issue. I personally apologize for the things that you have read but let me know if you want to talk and I can explain it.

and don't know how to fix it!

My update to FRG01b gets worse and worse everyday!

I'm no longer able to connect to 3G network! It ONLY connects to MY wifi at home. Once I leave my home I have no connection at all. NO connection to my browser, the market, can't check my email, no google maps, no anything that requires my gps (like geocaching). It's become nearly useless to me unless I'm sitting in my living room!

And... being a newbie, I have no idea what to do, or how to go back to 2.1.

Damn it!

Try checking this, it may be your problem:

Settings- Wireless & Networks- Mobile Networks- Data Enabled (check the box) If this isn't checked you don't get 3G. I'm "pretty sure" this is an option on FRG01B drop but I'm running a ROM I built from Koush and CyanogenMod's AOSP so I could be wrong.

Oh man! You are a lifesaver! That's exactly what the problem was! I owe you a beer or 12 :)

Thanks so much! I was feeling completely lost with out my Droid :)

I have found the solution(s) to allay all these concerns,

I like the way you think. :D

Finally.....We have the most intelligent post in this forum since I joined and me and a co-worker are astounded it took this long for someone else to say it. Thank you and he is the only one so far in here that is telling the truth,,my god I posted this info before and oh well.

Ummm, actually, several of us have said pretty much the same thing regarding Verizon not giving the info to the reps.

The rooters have clearly demonstrated that 2.2 CAN work with Droid 1, so if this one turns out to be true, it's total BS. Glad I did a manual update and have no major issues.

Now... IF this rumor does turn out to be true, are they going to send out a rollback for those who got it OTA? That sounds just as retarded as no update. They started it, they need to finish it.

Sent from my Droid
The issue is not being able to run 2.2 its with flash integration

The fact that VZW started a 2.2 roll-out for the Droid should be enough to tell people that we ARE getting 2.2 on our phones. It's just a matter of when if you aren't rooted....there will be no rollback because VZW, Motorola, and AOSP in general would loose too much face. Don't worry people, it will be pushed out, it may not be FRG...it could be something like FRH or FRI that is released.

Has everyone dozed off to sleep? Sure has got quiet! I am setting here with the FRG01B update.zip trying to not hook up the droid to load it!!!! Chris

I was at verizon yesterday and I asked since there is a forum on motorola.com that said it would be rolling out this week andthe answer I got was that it would be about three or four more weeks and that motorola doesn't own verizon wireless and can't make those decisions

I have found from 3 different places that the rollouts will resume Monday. 10,000 at first 50,000 after that. In a business sense 75% of the droids are the 1. That's ALOT of advertising. Verizon, Google, and Adobe stand to lose a lot. If it never happened 1/2 of us would put or phones down on the desk turned off. Advertising nobody is seeing. I also saw without issues the rollout would be finished by the 15th. In time to download flash from market.......:icon_cool:

I question the accuracy of this report

I called verizon tech support and the tech hadn't heard that the update was pulled, in fact he was very certain it's still on. He pointed out that Flash (cited as the problem in this report) isn't even part of the upgrade, this OS version is merely "Flash Compatible." It doesn't really make sense that the upgrade would be canceled for something that isn't even included in the first
place. Perhaps someone is having fun starting vicious rumors?

I just heard that the update was stopped because it was giving out free cookies and Verizon didn't want to be associated with that. I also just heard that Verizon will be sending someone out to your registered address to manually update your phone or kick you in the groin. I was too busy to pay much attention at the time.

Come on, folks. Let's stop with the he-said-she-said-I-said-but-there's-a-forum-post-some-poorly-trained-ill-informed-wage-slave-told-me stuff. Until someone posts saying that they've received the update OTA in the past few days we have no proof the rollout is continuing at this particular moment.

And yes, I realize this is like trying to stop teenagers from sneaking off together into the back room while nobody's looking, but I'm trying to be logical. :)

I'd like to get a cookie...but I don't want the groin kick. Would my phone have to be rooted to get a chocolate chip cookie? What if it isn't rooted, will I get a sugar cookie?

And are you sure it's a cookie, because with the version of Android being called "Froyo" maybe it'd be better if it gave out frozen yogurt. Mmmm...frozen yogurt... *Homer drool*
