VZW disabling tethering apps from market

... just to make sure PdaNet 2.45 (Susteen Datapilot Tether) still works on my device.

Just tested it, and yes, v2.45 continues to work fine in my setup.
Everyone be calm now. This was strictly a test of the Emergency Tethering System, to ensure that it will work in the event of a dire need for internet connectivity.

If you are going to debate the subject, start trying to do it respectfully and respect each others views. Try not to trample on what people say, no matter how misinformed you may believe them to be. I got tired of this pissing contest long ago when I realized that too many people want to throw punches behind anonymity. In the end, not everyone is going to agree.
Make your point and be done, don't beat a dead horse, and any other metaphor I didn't think of.

Remember that this forum was made to be a community of people trying to further the advancement of Android and to help each other. I don't think the intention was to argue a point to death just to resurrect it and do it again.

Very well put. Just seems that when someone expresses there opinion about the subject they get flamed by those whos opinion falls in favor of Verizon, and no matter what you try to do the attacks keep coming.

I to was guilty of this. I go smarter about it and try not to play that game as well.

I don't get it. Why do you feel you are getting flamed? Because I don't agree with you? Or because I'm saying you're wrong?

So when people say lame things like "I hope you enjoy your raise from Verizon" or say foolish sarcastic statements like "Oh I'm so self righteous and I am going to report you if you tether" that's not an attack on me?

The difference is I'm not going to sit here and cry about getting attacked, because I understand that its a discussion and people are voicing their opinion. No one is attacking me, and if you guys were trying to you've done a horrible job because it hasn't made me resort to "waah i'm being attacked!!"

Like I said, you guys can deny it all you want, but the over the top defense of what you're doing and the silly analogies only furthers the point that you guys know what you're doing is wrong. The loudest people are usually the ones who are guilty of something or have something to hide. Reminds me of the woman who asked King Solomon to cut the baby in half so both mothers can have a piece.

Admit you're wrong and move on. Stop with the silly justifications that are dead on arrival because of the simple fact that you agreed to abide by the TOS. It doesn't matter if it's fair, or if it's ethical. I think charging $20 for 2GB is highway robbery and the most idiotic policy on the planet. However, I agreed to pay $20 if I want to tether. You guys are getting passionate about your personal beliefs, and fail to realize that your personal beliefs are about as irrelevant as it gets when it comes to a signed contract. It's doubly silly that you guys are paying your bills every month like little disciples, are the first ones in line for the new awesome phones that come out and then whine about the service that you weren't forced into and labeling verizon as a tyrannical company that is taking away your "comprehension of life" (LOL wut?)

I can argue that I think the government is wrong for outlawing murder, and commit murders left and right, that doesn't somehow make it right. You're wrong. Plain and simple. Whether you want to accept that or not is irrelevant. Stop hiding behind "I'm being attacked!!!" every time someone presents a logical counter to your silly justifications.

I honestly don't care who tethers.

You've got over 150 posts in this thread alone that say otherwise. Obviously, you care. Or you're a shill for verizon. Which is it?

I hate having to hold people's hands every time they read one of my posts. Let's examine what I said, shall we?

When I say "I don't care who tethers" clearly (or at least I thought it was clear), I meant what you do is not going to affect me. If you tether, or if you don't, my bill is not going to go up, my service is not going to be cut off, and I'm not going to whine because I can't tether anymore. What I do care about is people trying to justify stealing as if it's their god given right to or something. Gimme a break. Like I said it's transparent. You tethers are getting so up in arms because (a) you know you're wrong, and (b) you know you're not going to do a damn thing about it if/when verizon somehow stops you.

"I'm moving to sprint, forget verizon!!!" Yeah...sure you are...

If you need me to break this post down too, let me know I'll be glad to help.

Oh and one more thing...let's say I am a shill for Verizon. If so, what exactly are you a shill for? The civil liberties union? Or some freedom fighting group? Or are you just some guy whos too cheap to pay $20/month and have somehow twisted that into "I am entitled to this because I already paid for my data!!!"

You do fail at comprehending life if you can't see the infinite wrong in justifying paying twice for the EXACT same data. It's simply being viewed on a different device, same bits, same bytes, same speed, same consumption. It's black and white. Verizon is feeding on the ignorant that can't see the truth. That is great, but I will use my data I paid for how it fits my needs. I have no use for their hotspot app, so I do not have to pay for the exact same data coming down their tube.

Ah drill your so much fun.

So we have come to find out if you tether you are just like a murderer. And dont say that's not what u said.

"OMGGG I'm being attacked!!!! You called me ignorant!!!!!!"

Ok now that that lameness is out of the way, yes it's the same data twice. Yes, it's being viewed on two different devices. But if that's the case, then why are you tethering? It can't be more convenient to carry around a laptop wherever you go when the same data is available on your phone right?

Or is it because it's less convenient to view data intensive websites on your phone then it is on your laptop? It should be pretty obvious that you're going to use more data tethering then you are viewing websites on your phone, not because the same website is going to use more data on your computer, but because you're more likely to visit more data intensive sites on your computer then on your phone. Of course, you will argue that all tetherers visit the same sites on their phone and don't use anymore data tethering then not...

If you do argue that, then I would love to know why you tether? If your answer is "because I paid for it already", clearly you're wrong because you didn't pay to tether, you paid for a smartphone data plan. I'll wait for your answer.

What the...

There is no possible way that you honestly thought I was equating murder with tethering. I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt, but somehow I feel as I'm giving you too much credit.

I paid for data, I use that data. If someone wants to pay Verizon to wirelessly connect multiple devices to the network, then use their paid app. If one wants to use simple data on one other device, then refuse to pay, and use a free app from the community. If they were worried about network congestion they would give a hard cap to all data. They are worried about seeing how far they can nickel and dime the consumer and see how much they will pay.

You paid for smartphone data, so you're wrong. Would you like to try again?

The data is being processed through my smartphone, so it's smartphone data that is showing up on a larger screen. I am using what I paid for.

When I said "smartphone data" I didn't mean there's this special type of data called "smartphone data!!!" that only exists on your smartphone, I meant you paid for data to be only viewed on your smartphone. Would you like to try again?

Really? Hahaha. You must have been working on that one all night. You're wrong. Just admit it. Everyone in here, including you, knows you're wrong. Drop it. That solves everything right?

Tethering is a hardware feature, not a service provided by a cell carrier. Its the same data, just on a different device. Its the same concept as a wired router on a broadband connection. Your ISP can't charge you 2x or 3x because you're using multiple PCs with NAT. and if every single ISP out there decided to try charging for that, you better believe people would circumvent that.

Would that make them evil too??
