The Avalon may be an animal but its ugly as all get out. Maybe if Toyota would put some style in their designs instead of making appliances there'd be something there.
As it stands these days the almighty Japanese quality superiority is a myth. They have the same issues as every other manufacturer.

I like american cars, I want one and have an infiniti g37. But when it comes to quality they're far behind. And no Avalon is not ugly at all. It grows on you, it's a car made for older people anyway not for people that care about the looks of the car.
My friend had a 2006 Pontiac gto and he blew his engine and differentials all before 10,000 miles. Granted he drove it hard but he's had a couple BMWs after (and we know how reliable those are lol) and those problems didn't exist.
I wouldn't go so far as to call American cars qualify either. For example look at the new mustang, as much as I want that car and even though I might still get it next I am dreading having to look at that ugly dashboard.
