ALERT! 2.2 FroYo Circus continues...FRG01B is Official get it here.

Good simple summary, but I don't believe that will work for those that forced the OTA last week, or for those that are running FRG22. But maybe that was your intent in the first place anyway, so I'm not criticizing. :)

This does indeed work for people who installed last week's OTA.

From the OP: As a side note this new full update will not work once you use last weeks OTA update. The script specifically looks at what you currently have running.

Here is a quick step by step from one newbie to the rest. Its a copy paste of multiple posts.

1. Root phone using any of the root methods. (I used the pay Easy Root App. $1 is totally worth it.)
2. Download the updated version file. (Pick the one you want. I used the Op's 2.2)
3. Rename file to update.zip
4. Download the file to the sd card
5. Restart the phone by pressing power and x at same time.
6. After you get the yellow triangle, hit the volume up and camera button at the same time
7. Use the d-pad to navigate to the “apply: update.zip” option, and choose the file you just dragged onto your microSD card.
8. When done, choose Reboot system.
9 Verify everything is working.
10. Reroot, if you choose. (I did.)
(Optional) Do a battery pull for good measure.

From the other posts I've read, this is the way to do it if you forced the update. If you hadn't download either the one mentioned or the one on the first post of this thread and do steps 2-8.

Did it - got it - thanks!

Interesting, well if so, then my bad thehirsches and ninjak. I don't get why simply adding root to last week's OTA file would all of a sudden cause the scripts in this thread's file to not recognize what's installed as FRG01B, but hey, I'm no expert.

I did this earlier in the morning and it worked. Had last week's forced OTA, rooted, downloaded the full update, renamed it to update.zip, and it installed. Why it worked, I can't explain.

No sweat, I'm certainly far from an expert myself when it comes to Droid flashing. I was just as surprised to hear it worked myself until I tried it. I'd have thought rooting would nake no difference as far as doing a version check is concerned. Perhaps this script checks for something additional...

I forced the update last week and preferred the newer "clean" version. I just bought Easy Root for .99 cents and installed it. Your instructions worked perfectly, I just didn't reroot after - my preference. :)

I can't credit for being a whiz and knowing it would update over last week's patch. I know it worked on my rooted, un-patched Droid and reverted back to non-root (which some people asked for).

I just followed the various posts and copy/pasted the steps along the way.

Given what was posted by the OP, I didn't expect the new version to update my system. But, since I had already had my Droid rooted with Easy Root, I decided to give it a whirl. No problems updating. I assume I have a "clean" install of FRG01b. Next, I'll use ER to reroot.

FYI, I don't remember how long it took to originally update to FRG01b with the version available last week. However, it seemed to update rather quickly this time. The progress bar initially filled part way, paused, and then quickly filled most of the bar before finishing.

For the noobs and paranoid semi-technies like me, in this scenario, why would you choose to root and why might someone else choose not to?

I rooted so I could tether to my netbook and get rid of ads in most of the free aps.

I know there is a ton of other stuff you can do, but it is WAY beyond me.

Rooting allows you to overclock, choose what apps you want on your Droid. It gives you more control over your Droid. I chose the Jrummy version.

Now one thing I don't think I've seen answered and I have missed a few pages: With Jrummy's version it would seem to me that we shouldn't even get bothered by the update alert. Is that how everyone else sees it?

Followed these instructions to the letter. I had manually updated to last week's FRG01B, and wanted to try this week's FRG01B for ****s and giggles. The install went smoothly, and all my data/apps remained intact. Time will tell if this "full" version works better than the "patched" version, though I didn't have too many issues to speak of with last week's FRG01B.
