ALERT! 2.2 FroYo Circus continues...FRG01B is Official get it here.

I went from FRG22 to.FRG01B using SPRecovery. I had no issues.

My Droid did reset on me once. That's all.

Did you use the most recent OTA version that was posted on the home page? If so, you were able to put SPrecovery back on? Reason I ask is the file on the homepage re-installs stock recovery.

Installed the manual update. No effect. Still the same slow, laggy regrettable purchase. Benchmark says 700 but in practice there's no increase in speed.

Early adoption is so great. :)

Factory data reset will fix your issue.

I have updated my droid from stock 2.1 to the new ota 2.2 update. I've never rooted before and played with the new update for about a day. Phone seemed to be running smooth and was getting a benchmark between 750 and 850 using the quadrant app. I've never rooted before and decided to try the easy root app. I downloaded it and rooted my phone with no problems while still using the new ota 2.2 update. Once this was done I rebooted my phone and downloaded wifi tethering and the overclockwidget. I then overclocked the phone to the full amount of 800 and ran another benchmark. My droid is now getting steady numbers of over 1,100. At one point it showed my droid running faster then the droid x. Phone has been running very fast with no foul ups. Just thought I would share my benchmark and was wondering what everyone else was getting. thanks

Just did the Easy Root method of updating to the newest update. The lag I got with the homescreen populating now seems to only happen after I've rebooted, and all of my apps are noticeably faster. This is supposed to be the same version as last week, but there's definitely some stuff added (otherwise the file size wouldn't be almost 80 MB as opposed to 45ish MB in the last one.)

Still having problems with my GPS finding me, but that's been since I got the phone.

Yes, what's added is a bunch of stuff to make sure the install goes through more cleanly. It wipes the ROM and installs all new stuff to it instead of just patching and hacking everything that was pre-existing from the 2.1 build.

Same stuff, different wrapper.

When I press X and Power it's not rebooting. I am rooted. If I can't do the X and Power then I can't install the new version I downloaded.

Please help.

At what point exactly do you have the issue? You power the phone down, press and hold X, and power the phone up and it just boots normally?

It was this part of the instructions that was stopping me..

5. Restart the phone by pressing power and x at same time.

Turn the phone off and restart while holding X. That's what worked.

Here is a quick step by step from one newbie to the rest. Its a copy paste of multiple posts.

1. Root phone using any of the root methods. (I used the pay Easy Root App. $1 is totally worth it.)
2. Download the updated version file. (Pick the one you want. I used the Op's 2.2)
3. Rename file to update.zip
4. Download the file to the sd card
5. Restart the phone by pressing power and x at same time.
6. After you get the yellow triangle, hit the volume up and camera button at the same time
7. Use the d-pad to navigate to the “apply: update.zip” option, and choose the file you just dragged onto your microSD card.
8. When done, choose Reboot system.
9 Verify everything is working.
10. Reroot, if you choose. (I did.)
(Optional) Do a battery pull for good measure.

You will have to root your phone if you want to use the "clean install" version. Follow the directions above posted by thehirsches if you want to do it. If you are not having any problems, then I hear there is no point in running this "clean install" version since its suppose to be the same file. I've not installed either at this point, but as long as it doesn't break exchange, I will!

Turn the Droid off first. Then hold the x down and push the power button.

Thanks, that did it.

Now that I'm rooted what should I do next?

The world is open. Overclocking, themes, custom ROMs. Check my sig for a link to help you out with some of it. It's a work-in-progress, but it's growing.

I'm scared to death to do what you have in your instructions. Wish there was an easy way just to load someones package and be done with it.
