I don't think a guy looking for info on the OTA qualifies as a troll. If so, I am a troll, too. I am honored by how much time you devote to your cell phone. For me, though, it is a cell phone which can do tricks. I love it, but I am not going to devote so mych energy into getting an upgrade.

I have no clue and neither does the guy who received it....

If I were make an educated guess I would say that he received it because the roll-out is probably going to start any day now.

I'm sure we will see more people getting it shortly

Yes, that's discussed on page 1.

At issue is how come not one other person has come forward saying they have received it OTA? Why did just 1 person get this?

cause its not legit why else:

I called someone with a single-digit (and damn close to 1 at the time) post count a troll for jumping in the middle of this thread and being deliberately provocative.

I'm not really disagreeing with him. I'm just saying the pieces don't seem to be coming together. And i got Miami on Gtalk telling me that CK is dead wrong.

Gotcha. Having a disagreement over... would have been a better way to put it.

And Miami was dead wrong about the original FroYo release date on two separate occasions...

Seriously, though, if it's doing the job that it needs to then I say official or not I'm not steering people wrong. If I've been telling people to put garbage on their phones that'll get their stuff stolen, um, I think I see a hiding place WAAAAAAAAAY over there...

Well I have noticed the comments about who got the new OTA and who didn't.
And I did install this new one over last weeks update using the update.zip method without rooting.
The only thing I noticed was the no redraw issue with LP as I had in the previous version.
So.. what's everyone thinking?

That it's not actually official since nobody else is reporting getting it. We all trust Pete, but we don't know Lance. Of course, for all we know this was a leak from VZW who didn't have a contact inside the community and wished to get one.

The possibilities are endless here on what it could be, from malicious to the real deal. Miami says it's fake, CK stands by Pete, Pete has already had his say, Lance hasn't stepped forward to defend the story, and without anyone else getting this update (or the other), we have no real information except speculation. It doesn't look very good, even though the file seems to be exactly what it says it is.

Or worse. Any time you put software with that much access on your phone from a source that you don't trust 100% you are taking big chances. We all have to make that call as individuals.

Lol how am I dead wrong. I'm just passing on info from a respected member over at Android Forums.

If he is lying its no skin off my back he will have to deal with that.

Its my job just to share and bring some good info to everyone if I come across it. I've seen johns post over at AF for some time now and the Guy has a good "record" he has nothing to gain from lying about a silly update. Agains if he is lying then he will have to live with it but I just don't see him lying about a stupid update.

Nobody has claimed the cure for cancer here. They are just sharing a build that was pushed from VZW. You also have to look at the what does this person have to gain by lying? Its not like no one is going to receive 2.2. Everyone will get it. So what does he have to gain? Nothing. What does he have to lose? Everything. I just don't see him doing this and until the update starts hitting more devices this is the best bit of info out there.

It matches motos update page and a respectable Guy received it. Better than any rumor or "source" out right now.

This is just so silly this whole thing. Its an update nothing more nothing less.

+1. That's it in a nutshell. This file seems legit (I trust Pete -- he easily could have screwed the community over a thousand times or more in the past and hasn't), but what about the next file that looks good?

Something like this could install the gods-alone-know-what in the very recesses of the phone to do something decidedly nasty, and here we are pushing people to install it on their stock phones.
