ALERT! 2.2 FroYo Circus continues...FRG01B is Official get it here.

so if i wanna go from stock root 2.1 to stock root 2.2 using sprecovery, will i have to wipe data and cache or can i just update and all my apps and settings will remain?

what is the easiest method to get from stock root 2.1 to stock rooted froyo? I'd prefer a way to just upgrade so my apps and setting would still be there, just like the official ota. The only file in here is the full 'clean install' one, and i know the one that simply upgrades is for non-roots right?
Right. There is no sure-fire way to upgrade to keep root, apps, and settings. You're kind of stuck losing at least one of the above.

dude thanks so much for answering all these posts. i got another question for you please...

is there an update.zip i can download that i could use with sprecovery to get me stock froyo (that will leave me without root and with stock recovery) and keep my apps and settings? Then that way, i could just use Easy Root to root my phone after that.

If that way isn't possible, i guess it wouldn't be hard to put the 'clean install' with root from this thread. In order to do that though, could you briefly go over the steps i'd need to take in order to regain everything? So for example, i would have to first make a nandroid backup, then backup all my apps and settings using titanium backup, then go into SPrecovery and clear cache and data, then install the virgin 2.2 rooted rom, then root with Easy Root, and then install titanium backup again and use it to retrieve all my apps and settings? Does all this sound correct? And if something goes wrong during this process, i can just restore my nandroid backup?

Thanks so much for your help. It is very much appreciated :)
You could risk the original update.zip that was released/pushed. I believe it'll leave your apps alone. I think this update would do the same, but I don't recall really reading much about apps reinstalling or whatever after the update or if they were still there.

I say risk because it might just wipe the phone anyway. I don't know. :)

Cool. Thanks dude. Yeah just trying to figure out the easiest way for me to do this lol. Cuz obviously stock people that receive the update just allow it and everything stays intact for them. Its a much easier process than what rooted people have to do..

Quite welcome and quite true. I don't mind the app downloads even though it NEVER gets all of them -- I just hate setting everything back up again with the shortcuts and settings. Of course, that's the price I pay for having something MUCH more awesome than stock on my phone. :)

I got tired of waiting and I just installed the update from this thread. It is the one that was put out on the 10th. The install went smooth, I had unrooted a couple days ago and this is the unrooted version. It left all of my apps, widgets and data, even my contact shortcuts were still there. The only thing it did was delete the corporate calendar, but it then put my corporate calendar onto the stock calendar and updated it.

Corporate calendar and the regular calendar were merged for FroYo as far back as the first leaked build.

Thanks for the update. If drpaul07 is still here, he could benefit from that information. :)

You should get a message to install it. You could try to force it by checking for updates in the settings, or you could just install the file in the OP since consensus at this point is it's legit.

and thanks for the info earlier today or perhaps it was yesterday when I asked what the ota build was. You have done a great job with this thread and steering people in the directions they needed to follow. Hats off to you and thanks until better pay comes along.

hmm..i'm confused as to which one you downloaded? i thought whatever was put out on the 10th was the froyo rooted rom? Are you talking about the 'patch' update?

And i guess you unrooted by installing a 2.0.1 sbf and all that? ooohhhh...so confusing lol

I unrooted using RSD lite and put 2.0.1 on the phone, then I got the 2.1 OTA update and installed it. I then got this file from the first page of this thread: Free File Hosting Made Simple - MediaFire. I will most likely root again, but I was having some real stability issues with my phone, I think because I kept bouncing from rom to rom, wiping and then loading and I think the phone got lost a bit. So when I unrooted, I even formatted the SDcard and started as if it were a new phone, ran it like that for about a week and then just tonight loaded the stock 2.2 update. Hope that makes it clear as mud LOL.

Clear now thanks! So I guess you cleared your apps and stuff when you unrooted. But then whatever you had installed after that stayed with you when you upgraded to froyo.

Well I guess I'm gonna lose my apps no matter how I try to get froyo. Ill try to use titanium backup cuz I can root the 01b build and get everything back I guess. I've just never done that before so ill have to make sure I know what I'm doing.

Anyway, thanks for clearing that up for me :)
