ALERT! 2.2 FroYo Circus continues...FRG01B is Official get it here.

I agree that the OP's FRG01B is legit, it does follow the same format and size, and in file and bitwise compares it contains most of the same files as the odexed rooted and unrooted FRG01B and FRG22 that have come out recently. There is little doubt about it actually coming from Moto or Verizon or Google...

However, for whatever reason, the OP's FRG01B is *not* the FRG01B that has been coming out in the "official" live OTA from Verizon's servers (and is also available from Google's website) for the last 24 hours. That one is much smaller and contains significantly less files.

I've gone through and compared a number of files in common between the FRG01B here in this OP and the one coming from Verizon/Google, and in bitwise compares they are the same. I have not compared everything though, perhaps someone else has completely done that footwork. But I have to wonder what functionalities have been left out of the actual official live OTA FRG01B that were in the OP's FRG01B, and what the rationale was for those differences.

Ultimately, the official live Verizon/Google OTA update's FRG01B is going to set the standard for "stock". If there are any important service related problems, this official live OTA version, with it's smaller set of files and everything, will be the ultimate judge of "stock" Droids.

I wonder how many abdominal muscles I could have "found" if I did crunches while reading all SIXTY-THREE pages... Wait, frozen yogurt IS healthy right? No need for exercise!! But now I have to down/upgrade to FRG01B "The Dancing Banana":icon_ banana: because I installed FRG22 and I just can't have that. I bought a Droid in April, it has taken over my life.

If you are upgrading from a previous OS version, you probably do not have to clear data. Clearing cache is a good safety.

If you have the ability to do so (ie: if you are running a custom recovery program), I highly recommend doing a complete system level backup before you do this update, just as a safety net.

uggghhhh...hate to keep asking all these questions but..

i think i'll try installing the stock froyo rooted rom tomorrow..so i must clear cache and data before this thru sprecovery yes?

And do the whole titanium backup thing too?

Moving from an Eclair (2.1) build to a FroYo (2.2) ROM/build requires a wipe. 2-3x System Data and an additional 2-3x cache wipe is the norm because sometimes the wipe isn't 100% effective and a little smidgen of code remains, borking things in the final install. My opinion is this is why they moved to the new packaging/installer for the new OTA.

Motorola finally cued in to what the rooting community has known since the first FroYo ROMs hit -- you HAVE to wipe, even from stock to stock, or else things have a good chance of getting gummed up.

This one updates from 2.0 or 2.0.1 as well as 2.1 update 1. This way they don't have to push the 2.1 update out first to upgrade phones flashed back to 2.0.1 by a tech trying to fix a phone for a customer after a borked update or coming out of Asurian with 2.0 on it from the refurb.

My opinion, at least. :)

Yes... But after the installation is complete, there are still a number of other files, especially in the system directory, that the OP's FRG01B installs, that are not installed by the live OTA's FRG01B. Again, not sure why, and again, those common files that I've compared are the same. It's just the extra ones from the OP's FRG01B that have me scratching my head.

This is just speculation, but perhaps the OP's FRG01B is the one that Verizon Techs will use to try to recover random crippled Droids in whatever state they are in when they come into the shop... It could be this (the OP's) version of FRG01B was intended for manual recovery. At least one documented instance of stock FRG22 was used that way for a Droid user when she came in to the local Verizon store for help. IF that is the case, the extra files would probably be of no consequence.

Btw, I need to thank you for your link to the Wired Tether program, it is wonderful, just like Wireless Tether only with the cable. That was a big help to me.

That's because the "big" file is a full replacement OS, the current OTA (the small one) only patches what's already on the phone. You could be onto something with your theory about the full one being used for recovery, especially since there is already a 2.2 .sbf file out there that can be flashed like the good ol' 2.0.1 .sbf we've been using for so long: FRG01B.SBF for Droid courtesy of RootzWiki - Droid Releases - AllDroid Public Board - FRG01B.SBF for Droid courtesy of RootzWiki - Droid Releases - AllDroid Public Board - AllDroid.org > Home

That's some darn good speculating. Pete has a 2.2 SBF available for download on his site now, so that actually meshes.

You're welcome for the link. I heard so many people panicking and complaining after FRF84 hit and people lost the free tethering they had to jump through hoops to activate when this had been available for download for months. The options it offers ALONE make it worth installing, even on the ROMs that have it in the settings.

Anyway, since (as far as I know) the only way to get SBF files is directly from Verizon, there's a leak kicking around.

I don't post allot, but I am on here every day reading about our Droids.
I chose the OP's version simply because I saw it as a true full OS install, rather than a piecemeal patch.
I installed it over a fully rooted,but stock 2.1 build.It took 3 reboots to
become stable, but my Droid now flies and I didn't lose a single app or bit of information.I am constantly finding new tweaks that have been added, that add up to a very nice experience.24 hours after the 3rd stabilizing reboot I added root by using the market 1 click root app.Now if
after all this FRG22 does become the defacto OTA it will not bother me at all,I would much rather add a "patch file set" to a clean full install of the same OS (2.2),than patch the older OS (2.1).
I have built PC's for years and have never had an upgraded OS run smoother than a clean install without having to do allot of tweaking.

What I do find funny is how many folks are nay saying and ballyhooing,
instead of looking at some of the positives that this new build has brought us.Honestly has anyone even looked at the stock frame rates in lagtest with 2.2.Everyone growled and screamed when they suddenly dropped into the 20's and 30's,well I am glad to say with 2.2 our Droids are now back to a solid 60 avg with a 72 highdancedroid

Does this mean i just need to sit back and wait for the over the air update to show up on my phone or do i need to do something.

If you want it OTA then just sit and wait. If you do not want to wait go to page one of this thread and install it from there.

So based on the information from Dwoid about there being some small differences in the content of the OP build from the version being pushed out over the OTA and if his specuation ends up being true that this is indeed some type of manual or recovery build is there any advantage to having one over the other?

When the partial patch update was being pushed out people were complaining of a lot of little issues, when the OP put this version up everyone was very pleased. Reasoning was because the new build was a complete upgrade and not a patch approach. Has anyone confirmed that the OTA is still just a patch up? If that is the case, is that another reason the OP version my actually be a better route to go?

1. The link to install on page 1 is a signed version. I see no difference between it and the one that I actually downloaded that is leaked.

2. If your rooted then you need to go to page 6 and download Jrummy's version which will keep you from losing root.

3. If you're not comfortable with any of this, then simply wait for the OTA.

I think that out of all the updates I've seen come out in the past year and a half, I've never seen so much confusion. Part of that is our fault, and when I say our I mean everybody in the forum, not just CK and myself. I think we tend to read too much into every little comment. To the best of my knowledge other then the size of the app it doesn't appear to be anything different then what's going out OTA. I wouldn't call what went out last week a patch, it was indeed 2.2 as is this one.

Supposedly what was added on was some security enhancements for business users. If that's so I wouldn't know because I never looked for it in the original version.
