ALERT! 2.2 FroYo Circus continues...FRG01B is Official get it here.

so, my wife and i recieve the update notification today... finally i should say. the problem is, that we're both rooted. mine is running UD 6.0, so it's already on 2.2, so i just clicked to update like previous threads said to do and it took away the stupid message. so, my questions are, can i do the OTA update on her rooted 2.1 or do i need to do the manual update? and if i have to do the manual update, will she loose all her data like you do when you flash a new rom? any, all and timely responses are greatful :)

If you allow the OTA update to install she'll have stock 2.2 with all her data intact -- unless the install borks -- but a stock recovery image. Manual installs have had a much higher success rate, but it's not required unless something goes haywire.

UD is going to get you nag screens every few days till you give in or there's an update to UD or you flash to a better(personal opinion)/different ROM that the dev didn't oops and leave the OTA unblocked. UD is running off old code, anyway.

In order to install JRummy or Pete's or any other rooted update/ROM, you need a rooted phone or an alternate recovery image (which means you're rooted anyway)/[/QUOTE]

Sorry to be so dull, but in OP of the the thread entitled SBF to root and to unroot

Step 2 states:
02: Install SPRecovery which replaces the stock boot-recovery program to let you update the phone with rooted roms.

Can i assume that if I do this, I can then flash the Jrummy16 2.2 rooted update over my non-rooted 2.1?

thanks for the input. i'll give it a whurl for her droid tonight. if all else fails, then i'll just do the manual update.

as for running UD's rom, i really like it. i've tried several others and they were not as stable or fast as UD. i guess we all have our personal preferences on what rom to use :) thanks again for your help tho

Got tired of waiting on Verizon!

So let me get this straight. I have never rooted nor have i ever done anything other than receive the over the air update that verizon pushes out. Does this mean i just need to sit back and wait for the over the air update to show up on my phone or do i need to do something. Sorry if that is a stupid question but i am new to this stuff.

At this point you have 3 options...

1) Wait, but there's a chance it won't come (at least for a while)
2) Root and use the file above
3) Don't root and use the file available at http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-general-discussions/66044-official-froyo-rollout-thread.html

Thanks so much for everyone's help in this forum! I finally gave up on Verison and went with option 2 above (EasyRoot, followed by the 79MB 2.2 Update, followed by the Flash 10.1.92.8 update. Everything worked as advertised. The phone got very hot for a while, and even though it was plugged in, the battery went down to 70% while it was hot, but after a while (couple of hours maybe) everything went back to normal. I have a lot of pics and songs on the Droid, so maybe it was in high gear trying to catalog everything. It's fully charged again and running cool. It does seem to work a lot smoother now, and I LOVE the new 2.2 Voice Search and ESPN videos. Now that I've lost my Root cherry, I have the urge to over-clock!

well, i did the manual 2.2 update for my wife's phone, and she lost her root access :( guess i should've read about it before doing it huh? oh well, i only had hers overclocked. if she starts noticing issues, i'll just have to flash a rom or wait until some genius figures out how to root stock 2.2
