Downgrade to 902 - No app or data loss

Just want to publicly thank SamuriHL. It was a little rough, but I got to .232 and rooted using his help and method in the OP.

Brief summary, tried on my desktop but got stuck on option 3 under .232. I posted the error a few days back if you want to know the exact. I then tried from my laptop and it worked. BTW I was going from stock 905 that was rooted and safestraped. I removed safestrap but left root.

Once on .232 I couldn't re-root. So I ended up FXZ back to 905 with a wipe, then to .232 again. Still wouldn't root. I tried my desktop again and no luck with it. I reinstalled the moto drivers/device manager from the link in the OP and presto, I'm rooted.

Would it have worked without FXZ back to 905, I don't know. I'm happy with it and have it almost back to the way I like. Using Apex launcher too which I love.

One question though, does anyone know what app in TiBu from 905 I need to restore in order to get my text/mms messages back and my phone call logs? Now that I'm on ICS, the apps don't seemed to be the same.

Thanks

I agree that script is awesome . Instructions were great and I went to 232 from 229 with no data loss, saved so much time . 232 way better for battery and smoothness. Thanks a million Samurai!!

I'm glad you got it mostly where you want to be. As for text messages I BELIEVE that's part of the system data so you have to be REALLY careful and find out EXACTLY which one to restore. If you restore anything other than just that it could seriously mess things up.

Apologies if this is blatantly obvious to everyone but me, but do I need to flash stock 905 prior to using HoB, or is there a built in option to do this for me? I am rocking a pretty old GB rom.

I Would Not Suggest ReStoring SMS. I Did That And Once And Ran Into A Lot Of Fc's And My Phone Became Pretty Much Useless. I Had To WIpe Everything To Be Able To Use My Phone Again.

This clearly should be stickied... I know how annoying it can be when it's not. Once again good job brother. I have had links to your thread in both of mine since you took this challenge on. I know you've had some great guys helping you out but without you who knows what would have happened to the users who mistakenly made the jump to. 235. Not to mention all the people that got to move from one leak to another without data loss. You know i never got to use your scripts because i always had to take the plunge first but it was always nice to know that you were there to free up my threads from having to take this on. And screw pms or dms hook up with each other on gtalk.

Thanks man. It was definitely a lot of work to get it to this point but it's become a REALLY versatile tool that should be relevant now well into the future. Swap out the FXZ and the updates and you're back in business. Much better than a static script that has to be updated all the time. But it wasn't easy to get it to be so dynamic. I'm just glad we're there now.

option for 232 update 6.)extract recovery.img

First, I'm not a complete n00b despite my newly created account. I've been tricking out my bionic since the first roms came about.

Second, I want to thank SamuriHL for this. This is most excellent and was very easy. I was on GB ver .904 that I obtained from the interwebs and thus put me off the upgrade path. I used the script and (upgraded) to .905 while keeping all my data. Then I manually upgraded to .232 and Just rooted. now i was just browsing everything else in the .bat file. Curious What does the extract recover.img exactly do? and is that something i want to do. I'm assuming this would be for the future if i run into problems?

And just to clarify - now that i am at this level (.232) all i need to do to get to .238 is to just boot into Recovery and select the .238 zip from my SD card right? I saw in a post somewhere in these pages that i could replace the file name with the version number. But I am not sure if that is what i want.

thank you again. your answers will be appreciated.

Recovery.img is used by the REINSTALL options to fix or reinstall your current version. All part of the "mini-fxz" experience for any update you're using. I added that option for those that jump on new releases before I add "official" support for them. It's not necessary for updates that are already supported. Maybe I'll add code to only show that if a recovery.img doesn't exist for the release you're installing. If I remember to do that for the next version I'll do it.

You can't just update to 238, no. You need to use the HoB and choose the INSTALL 238 option. Push it to your phone, reboot to recovery, rsd the xml file, reboot to recovery, install the update, wipe the cache, optionally install root. All the options in the second menu. ;) 238 is dangerous in that it can't be reverted to a build lower than 235. NO fxz option to 905 or lower.

Wow quick reply, thanks.

Ok I understand that. and maybe add just a brief readme.txt with a small explanation? for the second part. I get that too... I didn't have a 238 as the second option. Maybe becuase i didn't run the 238 .exe yet. (which i just did and now is there)

I also understand about not being able to roll back after .235 or higher. Being that I was able to keep all my data and settings through this process, unless i have a major issue.. i don't have the desire to go back. I've wanted this for a while. It was only until talking with stupid verizon today about my "searching for GPS" issue that i thought to try a different ROM and saw this whole thing. (it still isn't working btw... probably google's problem)

Thanks again.

Won't be necessary once I do the update to hide it for most people. :) And yes, you only get update options once you add the support files for that update. :) Dynamic rocks. I know everyone says they have no desire to go back, but, what they need to understand is that updates ONLY install on 905. Not being able to go back to 905 presents a problem. So what we do is build a new boot.img for the new update you wanna move to, and then flash system, preinstall, and webtop from 905 along with that boot.img. This allows the update to install. So you can go forward IF you have a boot.img for the update you wanna go to. And so far you can go back to 235, as well.
