Here's the 5.5.893 update file str8 from Moto. No root necessary.

Ok, so I'm just gonna throw this out there... I'm not rooted and I did this update and it worked sublimely, but now I think I want to go back. I don't want this to mess up future OTA updates and I don't want to root my phone. So.... Is there a (relatively painless) way for me to go back to stock?

Have you ever done an sbf restore before? The Bionic can be restored the same way, but it is called a fxz restore.

I'm gonna sound like a total novice here, but no I'm not familiar with that. What are the steps for that?

No root needed, it is what Verizon uses to bring phones back to life. My friend works for Verizon. I have done this method on my DROID X.

Can I do this without root?

Im not the experienced guy with this. Im just a geek whos newish to smartphones (finally could afford it). But from what i have read on various sites about this specific FXZ (what you see in the link i posted) and also what i have discussed with people here and a couple good friends who do know what they are doing, the answer is Yes you can do this and it will restore your phone to the state in which you got it brand new. That is my educated opinion. Now realize that while this method (the link) is highly successful, they even say on the site theres a chance it could not work. So make sure you follow the instructions EXACTLY as described and be extremely patient with the process. Do not rush through it or click buttons or touch the phone while it is process the recovery.

If any experts here want to add to what ive said or correct it i welcome the input!

Thanks, I really appreciate your answer. I'm also kinda newish to Droids (this is actually my first one) and I reeaalllyyy don't wanna mess this phone up. With that said, I have another possibly stupid question: Would a factory reset get rid of this update? Or is that link the only way? And if that link is the only way, what if any data would it erase (game settings, media, etc.)?

This will make it like the day you got the phone from Verizon. You will have to log in with your gmail, and let your apps re download. This wipes your Bionic clean and installs stock firmware.

That link is the "factory reset". It has all the data (files) to revert your phone back to how it was when you got it. Basically what the guy said right after you. You will have to do the inital setup log into your gmail redownload all your apps and setup the phone how you like it. It will be almost as if it is brand new. This IS THEE option to take. Sound good?

Ok, this is different from the factory reset button on the phone, no? I did a factory reset when I first got the phone and there's a button for it in the Privacy Settings. When I hit Factory Reset, that reset my phone. I wanted to know if that was the same as doing all those steps in that link, or if that was a different type of reset.
