Here's the 5.5.893 update file str8 from Moto. No root necessary.

Yes i've tried it all. It just stays in 1x when normally it'll be in 3g. Very good 3g area where I live. Like having a mobile land line. But this is frustrating now. I can remove batt and it would go to 3g but then back to 1x. almost tossed it but might get fired just for having it out replying like I am now

This is why as I get older I am less and less inclined to patch my expensive equipment with random patches someone posted on the interwebs. :P

Applying random patches is the tech equivalent of complaining about an ailment and having a random stranger say "Here take these pills" and then doing so.

Yeah this is supposivly an official update that has been leaked correct? With us have any adverse affects on maintaining the official upgrade path? What is everyone thoughts on this I'd like to know

IF this is the official update, and it's like the updates I got when I had my OG Droid, AND you're not rooted, there shouldn't be any adverse effects. When Verizon sends the update OTA it pings your phone to see what version you have. If it isn't up to date it downloads the zip file. If the phone is up to date it won't. You just did the downloading yourself in this case. If this is not the official update (or a beta version) then all bets are off.

You don't need to put it in the "root" just put it on sd card in main part.

Emm, the main part of the sd card IS the root. At least that's what I was told when I did the update to Froyo on my OG Droid.

I am a total noob to this stuff but I did manage to root and flash Liberty on my phone yesterday. Is it recommended to apply this update on a phone with a custom rom?

At the moment I'd wait. Some people are posting data drops and I've seen posts about losing root.

I have not lost 3G connection yet. I dont live in a 4G area so i cannot test going between the two without driving an hour away to test that out.

With that said these updates are not the "final" updates. They may be several revisions behind it when the final one does come out. Will you be able to upgrade to the final version from this version? You should be able to but nothing is guaranteed. Any of these types of updates have unknowns to them so try at your own risk.

the 5.7.893 update is working great for me. The only issue i have is that the sensor that detects if your face is on the phone or not seems to have been modified. its more sensitive now.

Guess I'll take this thing back to the store or is there away I can go back to the stock settings/radios? If not I will gladly go up the road and return it to Verizon for another. Im 30 mins til lunch from taking this phone back. It fluctuates from 3g to 1x where normally it would stay in 3g where im at now..Yes I've had data connections in spots but those are fixed with this update and the spots where i had great 3g is now broken...WTH

Anyone able to determine the difference between 5.5.893 and 5.7.893? I have 5.5.893 and it works pretty good, giving me better battery life during standby mode and solving the data drop out problem. Does it make sense to go to 5.7.893?

There have been several people saying they are having issues with this update & asking how to go back to stock AFTER they did the update. I STRONGLY suggest people do their homework BEFORE hacking their phones or any other equipment. YES this is an update that will eventually be OTA...but since we are being adventurous & being the forerunners by applying it BEFORE it is officially ready there WILL be some problems. Moto says the update is 30-60 days away because of testing...who do you think are part of the testing group? US! They know this stuff gets leaked & I am sure they monitor the forums...one of the best ways to test anything is to through it into the wild & see how it works. This way they won't be responsible if anything goes wrong. We are "voiding" our TOS by hacking our phones...and the software gets tested in the real world.

So before applying ANY hack please do your homework BEFORE you change your phone.

yea i know and I've read. I've hacked numerous Droid1 and Xs so I know how it goes.....But the thing with my Bionic is when im outside of my job 3g works fine...no dropping at all but when i come in my job to my desk is when i have the problems..Normally I wouldnt have any problems inside the building but now it goes from 3g to 1x inside only....

Edit: well talked to fast

just installed the update via my PC and transferred to my phone using the directions on this forum...i had no issues with 4G/3G data drops but my main reason for getting this update was for the camera, which i thought was the biggest flaw with the bionic...so far the update has made the camera much, much better...so far so good with this update

yeah, what he said.

Okay so field testing went well today. Data seemed to maintain connection at my job which normally it did not do. Phone seems a tad bit quicker. I still have trouble connecting to the wifi at my job, while people with different phones are able to connect to the wifi just fine. Really puzzles me is the router they use at work is the same router I have at home. So I'm still not sure what the issue is with that. Otherwise everything went off without a hitch and it seems to be no issue so far

As I stated earlier in my last post I was dropping wi-fi every 10-30 seconds at work last night. Since I've been home today it hasnt dropped once (been on it since I got home). So maybe something with the router at work? I havent lost anything yet all day today at home. But I am only running 3g (no 4g around me at all). Camera still functioning great. Been blasting my songs thru my computer speakers at home and it sounds great. But I never noticed a problem with noise thru headphones before anyways. Cant really tell if the phone is any faster or not and havent really tested battery yet as I've had it plugged up all day. 3g signal has been on the phone all day too. So hopefully this has done something for the good.

I followed the directions in the link provided on page 6 of this thread. Leaked 5.7.893 Full update (.886 --> .893) - Android Forums
My question is this: I had updated to 5.5.893 before I went to this thread, once there I upgraded to 5.6.893 then to 5.7.893. All installed fine. In the tread it says:

  1. Depending upon which update you have installed, pick the next increment from the files below and update via stock recovery
  2. Now, go to the top and follow the procedure above titled For stock users on 5.5.886 with no partition modifications (Webtop, etc) at all
SO once I did #1 do I keep on doing #2 which is:

  1. Use this post R3L3AS3DRoot and 43V3R root for the BIONIC v2.1 - xda-developers to get your system reverted to true OOB stock
    1. This file will revert your BIONIC to stock. It can do it as plain stock or as rooted stock or as 43v3r rooted stock, your choice, all in one.
    2. Extract the files in the archive to a folder and then run R3L3AS3DRoot.bat and follow the prompts carefully
  2. Use this file http://www.mediafire.com/file/ah4t6ruiksupuun/Blur_Version.5.5.886.XT875.Verizon.en.US.zip to upgrade to 5.7.893 - place it on SDCard-ext, not internal
