[How-To] Force Motorola Droid 2.1 OTA Update (ESE81)

So, how do I get into Settings if I get the Force Close message every 2 seconds because I had Launcher2 installed?

A little help?
Turn off your phone, then hold down the Menu and Power/Hang Up buttons, and keep holding them through the splash screens until your phone boots. You’ll see "safe mode" in the lower left corner.
You then can uninstall launcher2.
Then turn it off and back on again.

Muchos Gracias ::)

Does anyone have a link to the old 2.01 update? I would like to have access to it if this goes bad.

Thanks

Forced 2.0.1 DROID UPDATE! HOWTO - Android Forums

Posted for those who might need it...

Think that would remove 2.1 and revert back to 2.0.1?

I tried this and it resulted in an error while it was verifying the package and didn't end up doing anything at all. Desperately trying to find a way to get back to 2.0.1. I am filled with nothing but regret about unrooting and going with the ota update /sadface

Sorry to hear it. I was hoping this might be a good solution for those having issues.

lol Well just wait, all of like a week.. And someone will release a pre-rooted update.zip file..

Before the update, my wireless connectivity would always fail two or three minutes after connecting to the network at home. I now no longer have that issue!

Woot!

I get the same signature errors as others. Not sure why either. I believe that I will have to flash back to 2.0.1 in order to get this to work. Seems like maybe a corrupt recovery menu or something. Did anyone with the leaked ESE53 get this to work right?

I tried this once everything worked right but after reboot I looked and still on old 2.0.1. Now I forgot how I got the folder to my desktop then to root. I am using win7 and I can't figure out how to get the compressed folder to move everytime I try I get all 7 folders there seperate. Can I push them all together and rename? Phone is unrooted and ready for update.

Thanks to everyone here -- installed the update via directions. Was so easy a baby could do it. I left the slider open the entire time too fyi. Was perfect.

2.1 is so much faster. Loving the new gallery. Tried live wall-papers but it seemed to make everything go slower. The browser is noticeably faster too when scrolling. Happy!

I forced 2.1 and all went well. However, I went to the marketplace and tried to download Google Earth and keep getting the message "Download was unsuccessful, please try again". Suggestions?

I'm getting the same message with ANYTHING I try to download off of the market. Rebooted the phone - no change. Trying to reapply the update and see what happens...

(edit: no change - can't download anything from the phone...)

Ok. Got it resolved now. Had to reboot the phone and do a factory refresh. Kind of a pain due to having to set everything back up the way I had it, but market apps are available again (my phone actually downloaded ~90 apps back onto my phone without me doing anything...), and it seems to be running the update just fine.

...and the galaxy live wallpaper is sweeeeeet... :icon_ banana:

I noticed the same thing with live wallpapers it seemed to run much slower. I turned them off and it all seems normal again.

Stock Droid.

Downloaded file directly to phone, renamed & moved file using Astro, followed the directions in the OP and ... I've got 2.1 :icon_ banana:

Dowloaded Google Earth without a problem from the Marketplace.

Thanks guys & gals!
