[How-To] Force Motorola Droid 2.1 OTA Update (ESE81)

I couldn't resist... I d/l'ed and installed and was up and running in less than 10 minutes. I d/l'ed Google Earth as a test and it came through fine. I next d/l'ed Helix and all I can say is that 2.1+Helix = new phone. I don't usually like desktop replacements as they seem to bog everything down but helix doesn't feel that way.

Thanks...

For those at work who want to force update and dont have the usb cable. What i did was email myself the link to download the .zip file, used File Manager from the market to rename the file and cut and paste to the root of sdcard. success!

Please help

okay my phone = bricked (kind of)

i have performed the update from the direct google update file link.

it went smoothly, however on reboot it cycles through the 'DROID' animation then to the pulsing light as if it were loading. It just keeps cycling through this indefinitely.

i tried booting in safe mode.. no dice

can anyone please help me fix this without a wipe?

Took me close to 10 minutes to get past the loading screen

whenever i try downloading the zip from the link, it says that the download has been interrupted and it can't be resumed. anyone having these problems?

:-/

detail clarifications:

I have done the update. Held x on boot and performed the install etc.

Also, it is cycling between the 'DROID' logo and the pulsing light. (logo, pulsing light for 10 seconds, logo, pulsing light, logo, pulsing light, etc)

thanks all for your input

So, having successfully updated, if I keep this update.zip file as archive..I could use it to revert to official 2.1 should I begin rooting and modding in the future using the same process I did just today with it? Once this version gets rooted, that is.

if your stuck in the boot animation loop, go back into safe mode and do a factory wipe. try that.

clarify how i did the update. i transfered the update to my sdcard. boot safe mode, factory wipe, update with update.zip, factory wipe.
