[How-To] Force Motorola Droid 2.1 OTA Update (ESE81)

Still seeing:

i get :

E: Can't open /cache/recovery/command

-- Install from sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:failed to verify whole-file...

Tried renaming, with and without the .zip but thats all i know how to do. any ideas?

Good luck man. I've posted this in three different forums and everyone just looks right over it. I am going to try some stuff when I get home though. I have done lots of modding with this phone and others, so no I'm not a newbie. I guess that's what people think. I haven't heard of this issue with very many people though, just a handful.

I rooted and tried to put a ROM inplace but didn't get it done, i had to reflash with the Motorola's software last night and was just going to wait for the update. This should be easy and had very little risk so i hoped to get it in place today. Although i don't mod phones i am by no means a newbie

Just ran through the process. It was very easy. I didn't run into any issues. The process took prob just under 10 mins. The Droid "eye" animation ran for a few minutes (longer then normal), but I think thats to be expected when updating an OS/firmware.

It seems speedy enough. Live wallpaper and gallery update are cool. (ooh! shiney objects!) ;) I did have to deleted and recreate the gallery shortcut onthe desktop.

I am getting the issue where I can't download from the market though. I'll have to see if this clears up like it did for others...

I downloaded the update using windows 7, i dropped it into my sd card and renamed it "update" i rebooted into sprecovery (im rooted) clicked install, install /sdcard/update.zip and it comes up saying "error in /sdcard/update.zip (status 7) installation aborted.

any help?

Your not rooted right? No helix launcher or anything else that i've been seeing people have been having issues with during update? The looks like its named correctly, but when you use a file explorer like astro, does it also say update.zip?

Try to download it again and copy it over again. I"m not sure that that status 7 means..

Does it matter if im rebooting into sprecovery and choose "install update.zip"

Because when rooted, you dont get the exclamation point and hit camera button and volume up.

I AM rooted. Using Adamz ROM but using the stock launcher, not helix or anything.

Edit: It does say in Astro the file is: update.zip It says /sdcard/update.zip

From what i've read going into recovery and choosing the install update.zip is the proper way to do it. How are you doing it since you don't get the standard recovery screen?

i've read that a few people have had to do factory resets before they ran the update for it to be successful. I've read so many posts in the last hour on the update I can't remember what page its on...

Maybe someone else with a successful update from a rooted phon can chime in?
