[How-To] Force Motorola Droid 2.1 OTA Update (ESE81)

Thanks to the OP and all that helped with this. I d/l'd installed, and was up and running in less than 5 minutes. It didn't even take my Driod that long to reboot. Phone seems snappier. Voice to text is nice, and pretty accurate. I was gonna d/l Helix 2 but, I saw a lot of FC reviews on it. Then, I saw a couple reviews that said it's not made for the Droid. Only the N1.

Did an install rooted and it 'seemed' to be rotted when I got in but I didnt test.. Did a SBF restore and didnt even activate before I rebooted into recovery and applied the update. Swimmingly! A bit better response but I admit some disappointment in not having more than 3 screens. I did notice Googles.. but honestly they could have kept it and given me more than 3 screens LOL.

Now.. I just wait for root.

Thanks to everyone here -- installed the update via directions. Was so easy a baby could do it. I left the slider open the entire time too fyi. Was perfect.

2.1 is so much faster. Loving the new gallery. Tried live wall-papers but it seemed to make everything go slower. The browser is noticeably faster too when scrolling. Happy!

Dont know what i am doing wrong but i see the file on sd card. Could it be that my battery doesnt have enough power ????

Thanks to all. I read the whole thread, and everything went as planned, took about 9 minutes. I do not see anything new except for googles, news and weather
going to DL Helix

this update is actually not that bad, i think more features will get introduced later on, but i fear that adding those features will slow the fone down further. live wallpapers, 7+ screens, etc. will probably make the fone run as fast as molasses.
maybe they could increase the processor speed ...

Just manually updated to 2.1

I just got did the manual update! Went good!

Got the file from the google server and followed instructions. Did see a message like: e:\command\cache\something not found, but everything went fine regardless of the message...

The live wallpapers are really cool! The news and weather widget is pretty nice... haven't tried the pinch and zoom yet...

I was a little timid about doing it manually... but I just said.. "man up biotch" and it went well! :icon_ banana:

j/w would verizon know the difference if u manually installed it then the OTA?

Yes

But I doubt they are crunching those numbers as of yet.. Maybe in a couple weeks they'll know.. But not like it matters.

Well maybe it might. Hopefully next time they'll pre-release an internet update! Followed by an live authentication of some type..

but i will still get future updates OTA right? because of course i have also read that even some root users are getting the OTA even tho they r rooted. so im still legit to receive official OTA's?
