[How-To] Force Motorola Droid 2.1 OTA Update (ESE81)

Not working for me. I get an installation abort.

Followed instructions and it says it cant read the footer /sdcard/update.zip (Is a directory) and then the bottom line says something cant verify certification.

Running on a mac and tried putting zip after update and even without it. Still the same.

j/w would verizon know the difference if u manually installed it then the OTA?

Yes

But I doubt they are crunching those numbers as of yet.. Maybe in a couple weeks they'll know.. But not like it matters.

Well maybe it might. Hopefully next time they'll pre-release an internet update! Followed by an live authentication of some type..

but i will still get future updates OTA right? because of course i have also read that even some root users are getting the OTA even tho they r rooted. so im still legit to receive official OTA's?

You're fine!

I even did it as just "update" and still the same result.

Ugh..just my luck

about the speech to text thing ... is it a feature that learns ?

I don't know about it learning standalone on the Droid (Doubt it!).. I do notice that when I'm on a PC and check my Google Voice at https://www.google.com/voice, that after listening to a voice message that it asks me how accurate the text transcribe was..

That is one way they are increasing the accuracy of the voice to text software.. Think how much practice they've had with their Google Voice Messages..

Quite a bit I would think..

Unrooted earlier today, put the second update in my root file everything went well until I went to reboot, now it stays on red eye/ droid letters and never fully boots. (used the second file since mozilla gave warning about the first file)

Some people have waited 10+ minutes for the "Ole Red Eye" to go away..

lol

Be sure to download the file FROM the phone, do not use your PC and move it, I did that and kept getting a abortion because the file did not check out. I downloaded using the phone and it work great, just sad that there is no flash support yet.
