Ics soak test has begun!!!!!!!!

Not fair, I don't own a camper. How in the world would I have pulled that off!

I was only renting it for the weekend. I was lucky we had 4G. I knew a freaking update would leak while I was gone and sure enough it did. The OTA no less! :D The point was that the HoB is seriously battle tested. The only people that screw it up are the ones that don't follow directions. 30 minutes....done.

I'm glad to hear you have a bit of hope for JB on the bionic. Do you think if moto doesn't officially release JB for us they may give a little backdoor support through the skunkworks?
I recall a situation back in the 60's when GM had an official no racing policy but somehow Zora Duntov created the Corvette Grand Sport to take on the Cobra. During the cars debut at Nassau Speed week it had some mechanical problems and much to Corporates surprise many GM design and build engineers just happened to all be having a vacation there that week. A whole team came out of the stands to get the problem solved.
Engineers can take a lot of personal pride in a product long after their bosses are told to move on to something else.

I don't want to comment on future things. It's gotten people pissed off and me into arguments. So, I'll only say that I think it's possible that JB will come at some point.

So if I rent a camper, the odds of me "bricking" my phone are greatly reduced?

I'm just messing with you, you do realize?

im back on official .246. Hmm does anyone know if the razrs edge root method works? I cant stand this bloat so i wanna put ss3 and a blur rom on since i like using the lapdock.

Of course I realize. LOL. :D But yes, definitely....or a tent. I hear that works, too, except not in Loudon.....where tents are prohibited by town law. ;)

If all you're doing is installing the update zip file, and you're on unrooted .905, here are some steps. It's what Crazebeat said, but expanded for all the steps. If you connected your Bionic to your computer before, steps 1-3 should be pretty familiar to you.

Don't worry that the name of the file is 5.9.905. Motorola gives the name of where is coming from, not where it's going to. Be sure you have the Motorola drivers installed from USB and PC Charging Drivers - Motorola Mobility, Inc. USA on your PC. These may install automatically when you connect your Bionic to your PC.

1. On the phone go to Menu>Setting>Applications>Development and check "USB Debugging."
2. Plug phone into computer.
3. Press "Mass USB Storage" from the list of choices. Two drives will show up. One is MOT (Internal Storage) and the other is Removable Drive (SD-EXT).
4. Put the downloaded file in the root (ie main area) of SD-EXT (not Internal Storage). No need to change the name or extract it.
5. Eject both MOT and Removable Drive and disconnect the phone from your computer.
6. Power phone down
7. Reboot into stock recovery (aka reboot recovery) by holding Power and Volume Up/Down at the same time.
8. Select "Recovery" by pressing Volume Down, then press Volume Up to initiate it.
9. When the robot appears, press both Volume keys in at the same time.
10. Select “apply update from sdcard” using the volume keys, then Power to initiate it.
11. Using the Volume keys, choose the file that you downloaded (above), press Power and let it load.
12. When the install is done, press Power. It'll reboot, but it'll be longer than normal (about 6 minutes)
13. Wipe your cache by doing steps 7-9 again, but select the "Wipe Cache Partition" on step 10.
14. When the cache reformat is done, press "Power" to reboot phone.

The whole process, from moving the file into the SD-EXT card to phone rebooted is about 10 minutes. Of that, 3 minutes will be the phone extracting the files (Step 11) and 6 minutes for the install itself (Step 12). A long time to stare at your phone, I admit.

I've been stuck on Upgrading Media database for 10 minutes now... I hope it is just because I have a lot of music...

BAHAHHAHAHAHA

From my FAQ:

Q: I've finished the upgrade and now it's scanning my media files. How long does THAT take??
A: Ummm, how many you got? I can take anywhere from 30 seconds to 10+ hours. :) BEFORE doing the upgrade, if you have a lot of media, you may wish to move them temporarily til the upgrade is finished.

Take a trip to the House of Bionic.

I had the same problem then I remembered seeing in the HoB FAQ's something about making sure SafeStrap was not on -- turned it off and was able to use Camp's zip from stock recovery. Now trying to figure out ICS -- thanks all!!

Since I wasn't rooting I didn't read your FAQ as this was Motorola's official file. This could cause lots of users angst as they upgrade and didn't realize it would take this long.

If I was rooting and upgrading that way I would have read your FAQ top to bottom multiple times. *sigh* It is still upgrading my Media database.

Oh trust me I'm well aware of how painful it is for people. I added that FAQ entry for a reason. :) You aren't the first to hit this "issue". Not going to be the last, either.

Thanks for the info. Hard to be patient. I've owned my Bionic since the day it came out. I don't dare do leaks as I *need* this for my business and can't afford downtime due to a brick.

I'm in the same boat. I guess that means we're actually lucky that our phones both worked well enough to not mess with it. Perhaps the after market was so active on the bionic is because so many people felt they had nothing to loose. The complaints about connectivity on the bionic when it came out were horrible.
