Ics soak test has begun!!!!!!!!

The thousand + users I have for the HoB tell me how much demand there was to fix the phone. I've been running ICS since July and I've had zero problems. People who haven't run it yet are going to LOVE ICS.

I remember when my Xoom was update to ICS. What an unexpected surprise that was! It was like getting a new tablet. It booted so much faster and the WiFi and 4g worked much better. I'm expecting the same from my Bionic soon!

Quick question on root, if I may. been a little out of the loop on ICS/Moto and root. I go way back with the modding, but have been running more conservatively the last year or so.

I understand the HOB method. i have always been able to avoid RSD ;^) Just curious if a program like Voodoo will re-establish root if turned off for the update like it worked for 905. I am on 905 rooted, with all of the bloat. I'd rather do the simplist stock ICS with root method once I am tagged for the OTA. I am guessing with HOB available, no one is going to take the time to fiddle with repackaging 246 with root.

Thanks,

Craig

Xoom got ICS? Huh, weird. I've been running Team EOS since January. We're on JB 4.1.2 now. :D

Find razr's edge. It'll work. You can try voodoo ota rootkeeper but I have no idea if it works for this or not. The HoB is rather destructive to the system partition so that wouldn't work for it. Might work on a straight update.

BAHAHHAHAHAHA

From my FAQ:

Q: I've finished the upgrade and now it's scanning my media files. How long does THAT take??
A: Ummm, how many you got? I can take anywhere from 30 seconds to 10+ hours. :) BEFORE doing the upgrade, if you have a lot of media, you may wish to move them temporarily til the upgrade is finished.

Good to know, I have maybe 15 songs so an update for me doesn't take long, but for others, well.....

Yea, 10+ hours. Hell one guy got over 15 or so. He was NOT happy. He said it finished sometime around 3 in the morning. LOL.

I really have no idea. I don't keep music on my phone so I don't know. I've got it on my Xoom and it doesn't take long to scan it. And the rest is in the amazon cloud.

I'd still like to hear from some of you that have received the OTA or SOAK today that have completed it and can report on how nice ICS is.

I've been running ICS since July. It's extremely nice. Nothing at all like GB. It's like a whole new phone.

You don't count! I was asking those who just got it today through the OTA or SOAK. I am particularly interested in the "experience" of the upgrade process from this.

:p

I do my music collection over Plex. I have a Plex server at home and I stream my music to my phone when I want to play it. The best part.. Plex is free for PCs and Macs. It does cost $5 in the Play Store though :(.

Take your music off your SD card before upgrading. If not you get to be stuck on "Upgrading Media database" for hours. I am one of those suckers.

Voodoo worked for me (coming from stock .905 rooted, straight update using the zip that was posted earlier rather than HoB). Restoring apks+data from my backup pro now....cannot believe how fast the phone is now -- I was never on any leak, so I never saw multi-core in action!!!

Oh it's AWESOME. It tells you there's an update, you tell it to install, it boots into recovery and runs a script that installs the update, wipes the cache, and reboots the phone. The Android update script runs, checks your system data, apps, and app data for any issues that it can correct, scans your media files for 100 months, and then lets you loose in ICS. After 4 days your phone will settle down enough to start giving you real battery life and performance. I have quite a bit of ICS experience on Bionic thanks. ;)
