Ics soak test has begun!!!!!!!!

Voodoo worked for me (coming from stock .905 rooted, straight update using the zip that was posted earlier rather than HoB). Restoring apks+data from my backup pro now....cannot believe how fast the phone is now -- I was never on any leak, so I never saw multi-core in action!!!

Nice ain't it? You can also force 2d acceleration in the options which gives you another speed boost at the risk of potentially having issues with apps that don't support it. I've not had any issues leaving it on. Also freeze the stupid bloatware by going into settings, apps, all apps. There's a disable option in there and you do NOT need to be rooted to do it. See my FAQ for more fun information.

Oh it's AWESOME. It tells you there's an update, you tell it to install, it boots into recovery and runs a script that installs the update, wipes the cache, and reboots the phone. The Android update script runs, checks your system data, apps, and app data for any issues that it can correct, scans your media files for 100 months, and then lets you loose in ICS. After 4 days your phone will settle down enough to start giving you real battery life and performance. I have quite a bit of ICS experience on Bionic thanks. ;)

LOL, you do love to hear yourself type, don't you? I can tell that you are the go-to guy though!

Interesting, I'm not part of the soak test and just did a "check for updates". ICS showed up and I'm downloading it now.

Must be nice, I've been checking every hour, with no luck. I've had this phone since Sept 8, 2011. You'd think I'd be up near the top of the list, right?

Both me and my husband....are getting the OTA!!! Downloading as we speak!!! Whaaaaa Hoooo!!! I've been stock since Day 1. I've read on different sites that it might also include a little surprise... We shall see.

I don't want to comment on future things. It's gotten people pissed off and me into arguments. So, I'll only say that I think it's possible that JB will come at some point.

LOL! :)

I'll just say, I'm glad that in your expert opinion, you think there's still a possibility we will get official JB. That would go a LONG way towards healing the pains of Bionic ownership up until now. And go a long way towards making me feel good considering a Motorola again next time.

BAHAHHAHAHAHA
From my FAQ:
Q: I've finished the upgrade and now it's scanning my media files. How long does THAT take??
A: Ummm, how many you got? I can take anywhere from 30 seconds to 10+ hours. :) BEFORE doing the upgrade, if you have a lot of media, you may wish to move them temporarily til the upgrade is finished.

10+ hours?! I am SO F'ed. :D

I started my update first thing after waking up and wasn't awake fully, I'm useless until my caffeine. Right after I started the update I thought, "Woops, I should have pulled my 64GB SD card with 45+GB of music on it!". I recall this step or a similar one on previous updates on other phones. Well, it's been two+ hours, still "Upgrading Media Database".... So eager to get ICS on this phone and it looks like it's going to be updating all day.

First bit of feedback for Motorola, this is beyond stupid. What could it possibly be doing to the Media Database that needs to take this long?! I recall a long wait previously, but nothing like 10+ hours. I think it took an hour or so with less than 16gb of music on a Galaxy S(Vibrant) going from 2.2 to 2.3 IIRC?

Anyone powered off during this process? If I do that and pull the SD card will I get around this or will I hose something? I'd guess it would be fine, but would really hate to F this long awaited update up. Or I can just wait literally all day.

Ok, but at 9:10 you said it wasn't available for pulling yet, that must've changed.

No. You don't seem to understand the difference. You simply got lucky. They roll it out in batches. Every hour a new batch of phones gets the update authorized. When I say it's not available for pulling, I mean that if your phone isn't yet in the batches that have received the update, you can sit there all day and do check for update and it ain't going to happen. When it's available for pulling it means it's rolled out completely and is now general availability for all.

I'm pretty sure you can. However any apps on the card may not be scanned and optimised as seems to happen during the update.

So the .zip is on the external SD card though. Wouldn't that fubar everything? I am an hour and a half in. 16GB card I believe, maybe 32GB. But I only had like 8gb of music.

My phone is a nice hand warmer now though. If only it was cold out.

It'll massively break the gallery until you do a factory reset and do it all over again.
