Appreciate it, and I understand it gets a hold of the GPU and CPU, but how does the notable performance stand out? That's what I really wanted to know. Would it just make flash a lot less buggy and faster and stuff like that?

It should definitely run smoother. It obviously won't help if your on 3G and not getting great up/down speeds, but only Verizon and their 4G network can help with that.

I had this problem the other night as well. I posted in the blue energy theme forum because i thought that was what was causing it. I reflashed 2.2 and it seems to have fixed whatever issue it was.
I don't know if anyone else noticed, but there's a new "default" bootanimation with Froyo and it looks pretty neat! Mount your /system partition and delete the default Droid eye from /system/media/bootanimation.zip
