Not quite sold on the Droid Bionic but want to stay motorola

So CK, are you going to wait for this phone, or get the Bionic? At the rate you go, you'll never get a phone. lol
I'll tell ya Egoo I'm in this for the long haul now. Doesn't look good for me right now though lol.

I won't be able to purchase a device until I know what the Targa has under the hood BUT I have declared I will purchase a phone this year even if it's not until Q4. No matter what I hear is coming out in 2012 I'm going to purchase a device that I will be really happy with...PERIOD : )

It sounds like the Targa isn't coming for a long time. December seems to be the earliest, but it could be much later. To me, that's too long a wait with an upgrade ready while my Droid ages. The Bionic will do me fine come April/May. Then maybe the Targa in February, which is a likely launch date. :)

so CK, care to revise your solemn declaration?? what if the D3 is non-LTE and completely locked down; but the Targa is quad core, LTE, unlocked but doesn't come out until early '12 - you still buying one this year?! ;)

Im curious as to why people keep thinking Motorola is going to unlock their phones, whether it be the Bionic, D3, Targa, etc.

Why would they suddenly have a change of heart like that?

Just trying to be optimistic, especially being that the Xoom is unlocked. Also, Motorola said they would come up with something to make developers happy - a compromise. We have yet to see what that may be, but we're hoping it'll open doors to custom roms for future Motorola phones.

Wasn't the Xoom unlocked?

It was my understanding that it was unlocked for the same reason the original droid was unlocked, because it was a joint product with Google. Someone come in here and correct me, but Motorola has a history with locking all of their other devices, so Im not really convinced that they would change that anytime soon.

Until I hear otherwise Im just going to assume that all these new phones being put out by Motorola will have some type of blur and will be locked.

My thoughts exactly. Everyone moans about moto never again giving us an unlocked device, yet they give us the flagship android tablet unlocked...

Not to mention they have promised an upcoming google experience phone. (I hope its the droid3)

there have been a couple of things that have led to the increased speculation of an unlocked dev'r device. first, after the fiasco a few months ago with a Moto employee stating that "if you don't want an unlocked device, go buy somewhere else", Moto came out with an "official" statement that it will continue to try and work with dev'rs and possibly provide an unlocked device. secondly, there are rumors that Moto is in line to release the next pure Google/Nexus 3 device. the Nexus devices, by history, are open, unlocked devices. there may be other reasons (including the increased clamor from a segment of users/dev'rs for an unlocked device), but these are the main ones that give me some hope that we may yet see another device like the D1...

Latest info is that the Targa is NOT a Q4 device (it will launch earlier)

I will purchase the Bionic, Stealth V or Targa depending on which handset has the "best" specs.

I do like all 3 processors TI OMAP, Tegra and Exynos so it's going to be a REALLY tough call in regards to that but screen and capabilities will be a deciding factor in all of this. The Super AMOLED Plus on the Samsung is really nice and if it comes with the 1GIG Ram/Dual Core Exynos like the Galaxy SII I may have to go with the Stealth V.

Pretty undecided right now : )

I did not buy the tb, but it wasnt that I didnt try. After vzw would not allow me to sign a 1year deal I walked out. I refused to sign a 2yr contract on a contract that I was just going to play with. And if the battery life is as horrific as reports I am glad vzw didnt allow me to upgrade they did me a favor. Now I had to buy something so I bought a nook color and its rooted and running a rom. So nice.

I've heard that some have gotten 1-yr contracts at stores but I really hope this does not become the standard operating procedure for new releases. The Bionic is at the top of my list now and I will only commit with a 1-yr contract. The Targa sounds beautiful but I've been sitting on an upgrade since August and am about ready to throw my Storm 1 into the largest available solid object in sight....

CK, what have you you heard about a Targa release date?

The Stealth has a 1.2GHz Hummingbird processor, and possibly only 512MB of RAM. It's basically a beefed up Fascinate. Also, if the Targa is coming earlier than Q4 then it most likely wont have quad-core. Sounds like the Targa and Bionic are the best choices and might offer the same thing more or less.

don't ask me to explain it, but i have a general aversion to Samsung devices - don't know why... and, the issues raised about the Bionic have me really skittish (right now). leaning to the D3 right now, but anxiously awaiting more info on the Targa.
