****Official FroYo Rollout Thread-Version2!****

Quick question. Is it still worth rooting the Droid on the 2.2 update and mess with the overclocking and custom ROM's? Not that I will EVER try to overclock again after frying my last phone but just curious if it's still worth it.

I manually updated today, it was easy and I am extremely happy I did.
+1 I use P3Droid's kernels (http://p3designs.info/kernels/): the 250-1000 MHz kernel, capped at 800 most of the time, and get a great balance between speed when I need it, and battery life when I don't.

download file onto computer,
1) Change the name to update.zip.
2) Connect your computer to your phone.
3) Press the USB on the notification and select "Mount"
4) Put it on your sd card. Not in any particular folder, just on to the card.
5) Turn your phone off.
6) Boot into recovery (Hold Power + X).
7) Wait for a triangle with exclamation point to appear and release Power and X.
8) Hit the volume up and camera button (half-way down) at the same time.
9) Using the D-Pad select “apply update.zip” and press in the gold button on the D-Pad.
10) Your phone will now run the update.
11) When it finishes, use th D-Pad to select reboot phone.
12) Your phone will reboot with Android 2.2.

SPECIAL THANKS TO FURBEARINGMAMMAL FOR ALL THE HELP UPDATING MY PHONE...PROST... and I'm looking for your ebook...

So has anyone who has gotten the update or done it manually already, had the issues that I've mentioned in my post?

A link would be nice so those of us answering your question don't have to go through 100 pages of posts to find it.

It's always worth rooting if you want to root and know what you're doing. Stress on the second half of that sentence.

I did the manual install and it bricked my phone....even brought it to VZW and they couldn't fix it...
Fortunately, they recognize a lot of people have reported this problem and they're sending me a new phone....
*PHEW*

i gave up. waited way too long for the OTA, so i did it by myself.

was very easy, downloaded all the files on my phone.

only issue i am having is that LauncherPro is EXTREMELY laggy...

Thanks Bpad10. I'm trying yo do it without the computer. THE green and blue android forums from Aug 8 Tells how to do it....or trys. 2 people have since "bricked" and and as many times as I've "camera uped" I'll wait for the droid only step by step....:icon_cool:

I finally got the update today I noticed to opposite, LauncherPro is much smoother than before. Perhaps it depends on what other applications you have running.

I haven't gone through with it yet, but here is a link that includes info (& even barcodes) for doing it phone only. it seems like it is explained in very simple words and includes pictures of what to do at each step as well :) (PS the instructions for phone only are after the USB method, just keep scrolling and you'll see it!)

are you using basic LauncherPro or LauncherPro plus? I installed the basic version a few weeks ago and I've been wanting to upgrade to the paid version (mostly just to support the amazing developer), but I saw a lot of people wrote in market comments that they had LPpro issues on their droids when they got the froyo update, but I didn't see any complaints about the basic version and 2.2. I haven't gotten froyo yet so I've been curious about what will happen to my LauncherPro when I do get it... I don't ever want to go back to not having it.

I have the paid Launcher Pro and it seems to be working just fine. It was laggy at first when I initially installed Froyo but it has been working a lot smoother now. And I love the new update widget for messages! I can scroll through my messages on my home screen in a really fancy way haha. I hope this helps. Pro Plus is really nice and I use it at my main home launcher
