RAZR dropped, then Galaxy Neuxus, Then RAZR Agian:)

Back to the dropped phone thing. Has anyone dropped a Razr when it was in a case and if so how did it survive?

Sad to say I've dropped every phone I've ever had but they were all in cases and survived.

Dropped mine several times, mostly out of my shirt pocket when bending over to pick something up. The otterbox commuter case that I put on it before leaving the vzw store has saved it every time.

Well I would hope that they were going to update the bugs that they created. I do believe how easy a device is to update plays a factor in companies decision and how long it takes to update it though. Just my opinion.

So are you saying that Razr is harder to update than the DX? If so, how do you know?

No, what I'm saying is it would be easier for them to update their phones if they had no skins on them.

This is true. But doesn't change the fact that there are many that do want to. Even if we are the minority. A Nexus for example is still going to be a good phone stock. Just gives a few more perks I suppose.

For people like you and me, I agree completely. But these people either work for a site/company and/or have sponsors that want them to do so, and can afford to do so. And I'm sure if they did mess up, these people are reimbursed. These people likely know what they're doing, so it's no problem for them to do it.

I agree, if I needed to have something done to my phone I would take it to somebody who can assure their work, if they mess up I don't want to be out a few hundred

Um no you're right about what no one even mentioned, the Kevlar feels awesome and looks amazing, its just full of awesomeness and that's just the back of the phone..

Edit- darn ignore this post I pushed reply to a previous post, but I guess it didn't reply lol. Whoever was bashing on the Kevlar technology, stop being jealous. Awesome super thin and super fast phone is better to me than a plastic also fast phone that has better protection, I just prefer the awesomeness over the protection I guess because of my lack of ever dropping phones. My 2c's.

I'm really torn between these two phones. I have a GN right now (can return before 15th), but the data signal on this phone has been rather spotty and volumes for both the external speaker and calls are too low for me (I've tried Volume+). I do like its display and the fact it will probably get the next Android OS when it comes out. GN is a nice device, but I'm afraid I might end up being stuck with a phone that has problems in what I consider to be the most important function (making call) for the next two years.

A few of questions I have for the Razr users who also know what GN is like are:

1. Is Razr noticeably louder than GN?
2. Does it really hold its signal better?
3. I've actually never had an android before GN, so I don't even really know well what Gingerbread is like (other than playing with my friends' phones for a few seconds at a time). Is it a big stepdown from ICS?

Other than that, the non-removable back on Razr is probably my biggest concern. I know you can still remove it, but doesn't it void warranty?

I do really like the design of Razr and if it is a noticeably better phone in terms of holding signal and call quality/volume, I think I would go exchange my GN for it.

Will try to answer as best I can:

1. Will hopefully know tomorrow, G Nex is coming be Fedex. I do know my RAZR sounds louder than my Droid X1. When I got the RAZR I finally retired my Droid 1 as an alarm clock, I just found the battery for it yesterday.

2. See 1...lol. I live n work in a bad reception area, apt is a virtual dead zone. So I should be able to see reception issues easier.

3. From what I saw on the Droid 1....as far as looks... it looks like a huge step up. This might be the first version of stock Android on phones I dont consider too plain, boring. The RAZR has Gingerbread + Moto Application Platform (the skin, custom UI formerly known as Blur)

Dont really know if removing the back on the RAZR voids the warranty. I did do it, its not that hard. Didnt remove the battery tho. However:

1.) there is no spare, extended batteries for it....yet...maybe
2.) The reset works so far, havent seen too many complaints about it not working.
3.) There are very small external batteries that carry alot more battery life than any extended or spare. I will be using one for all my phones from now on.

Some folks doing battery life and reception tests on another site gave the edge to the RAZR. One even pit Smart Actions on the RAZR against Juice Defender on the G Nex. (Juice Defender is an app that can be installed on any phone, Smart Actions is only on the RAZR...although it is similar to apps like Locale, Tasker) As always like with any phone, the G Nex coulda been a dud, battery coulda been a dud....

A site called Anandtech, a very good site for go to info about tech in general IMO, has a Bench tool that compares all kinds of different tech. On that tool, the G Nex has very low talk time battery life vs. other LTE phones on Verizon. So according to that Bench tool, overall the RAZR had better battery life, with talk times being the biggest difference.

G Nex does have the advantage of extended batteries, spare batteries.

These are my opinions on SEI28's ?

1. Yes, speaker volume both external and internal for me is more acceptable on the RAZR. Volume + app didnt help much for me.
2. Yes it holds signal much more stable for me in my areas of work/home.
3. No, I don't really care if or when I get ICS on my RAZR bc I am happy with how it performs now. MOTO Blur isnt bad or slow like some people make it out to be. with the RAZR's dual core processor and high ram it is way faster and smoother than the D1, and even my prior DX.

I think overall call quality is better with the RAZR also.
IMO opinion the RAZRs Achilles heel is the gorilla glass screen it is glass and will shatter if dropped just right. I had a case on my original razr when i dropped it but it didn't protect the screen, only the rear. maybe a zagg invisible shield would have helped IDK.....

JUST MY .02 :)

How much would you say it is louder by? How about sound quality?

One of the things about this whole Razr vs GN debate that I see time and time again is the "pure Android experience " topic. I posted on two different sites asking what on the Razr was "Blurred" besides some optional widgets and couldn't get an answer.

I'll ask it again, can someone point out the Blur on the Razr besides some widgets?

Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk

The entire UI is "blurred". Did you have an D1? Compare/Contrast with Razr. Then you should be able to tell what is "blurred!"
