[ROM] ApeX 1.3.1 for Droid X - Running, running, as fast as it can (12/16/10)

I'm fairly certain that the full .320 SBF does work with bootloader 30.03, so there's always that option.

Then, coming from .320, all you need to do is root and install bootstrap and hop over to ApeX, which will move your system version up to .340.

My phone is the one that bricked from the kernel update and now I currently have RSD v4.8 ready to go and the .320 sbf file downloaded however I am having difficulty starting the file. Any insights?

Use this guide at your own risk. I did and it worked for me. I take no responsibility blah blah blah...

Before you do the sbf- did you try to wipe data and cache from the stock android recovery? I have heard that solve many problems.

Here is a link to the guide I used. It is for the 2.1 SBF though.

Motorola Droid X Android 2.1 restore tutorial

Here are the instructions with my modifications for 2.2...

IMPORTANT!!! - the directions are for restoring 2.1 so you do not do some of the steps! They were the best I could find. I followed them except for things that did not apply.

instructions:

1. First off, choose the right version of Motorola USB drivers for your computer and install them (32bit) (64bit)

2. Download & install RSD Lite 4.7 (download)
I did not use 4.7 as it is not current. I used 4.9. Here is a link RSD Lite 4.9

You will need to patch this after installing. There is an .ini file included in the folder that needs to be placed in your install directory. /Program Files/Motorola/RSD Lite

I used 4.9 and did not have to patch any files- the above step was unnecessary. If you go ahead with 4.8 - I have no idea if you still have to patch the file.

3. Download the Droid X Android 2.1 SBF file, which you can find here
of course you aren't using that sbf...

4. Unzip the SBF file to your desktop
i did not unzip mine to the desktop- i put it where i stash my android files- it made no difference.

5. Run RSD Lite, and click the “…” button, then find the SBF file that you just unzipped to your desktop and select it.

Starting here i followed the directions to the "t". Went through all the steps. !!!!!MAKE SURE YOU START WITH 100% BATTERY!!!!!! It takes a long time and if your phone dies during the process it is a nightmare.

6. Plug your Droid X into your computer and power it down
Go into the Bootloader (with phone off, hold the CAMERA button and VOLUME DOWN, then hit the POWER button)
After holding for 2-3 seconds, release the buttons and RSD Lite should recognize your Droid X

7. Click the start button to flash Android 2.1 to your phone.
of course you are flashing the update

8. When the flashing is complete, unplug your phone
The Droid X will likely not boot up all the way, so pull the battery out
Put the battery back into the phone and reboot into Recovery mode ( Hold the HOME button and press POWER until you get an exclamation mark. Release the HOME button and press the SEARCH button)

Using the VOLUME UP/DOWN buttons, navigate to “wipe data/ factory reset” option on the screen, and press the CAMERA button halfway down to execute.
When complete, choose to reboot your phone

9. It takes a while. Hope this helps. And I hope it goes smoothly. It was nerve racking for me. After you have finished the process you will not be rooted. Use the market app "Z4root" or which ever method you prefer.
good luck.

Thanks, I went ahead and used rsd 4.9 with the .320 sbf file. Eventually it got to the point where it was asking for a manual reboot so i went ahead and tried to turn the phone off to no avail. It was looping between two animations. One is the droid eye and the other is the the "android" title. So it's flashing between the both of them and I can't turn the phone off unless I take out the battery. What should I do from here?

The same thing was happening to me, except that it happened when I was going from 2.3.15 to 2.3.320... But this should still work.

First, you're going to want to pull the battery so that your phone shuts off. One your phone is off, boot into the STOCK recovery (a quick google search will help you find out how to get into stock recovery... I'd find it for you, but I'm currently busy at the moment and do not have time). Once you're in the stock recovery, click on wipe data... Let that finish and when it's done, reboot your phone.

Hopefully that will fix your problems. ;)

OK so I installed Apex 2 days ago and I'm having a few issues with video and the music player. I can't play any video at all. I tried all my players; stock, mixzing, and tubemate. I can't even play videos from the browser. All I get is a "File cannot be displayed or played" message. And as far as the music player my device just freezes up when I try and use it (I could use PowerAmp though).

I'm going to install the update now and see if anything changes.

EDIT

The update fixed all my issues:) BTW ****ing WOW this update is incredible!!

Manual reboot = pull battery and then reboot into stock recovery. Wipe data/cache and then choose to reboot phone. This should put you at the .320 leaked unrooted froyo. Root with z4root (verson 1.3 is avaialable for download at xda and other various sources) and then upgrade to .340 via the TBH files. If you are not on the 30.04 bootloader, current kernel and current baseband you can upgrade all of them via clockwork once you get the files. The .340 system sbf file is available in zip form to install via clockwork so once you have the most current bootloader/kernel/baseband which you should from the full .320 anyway then boot into clockwork, wipe data/cache and then run the .340 sbf and once again you'll be at unrooted stock froyo, this time .340 OTA. Again... (lol) root with z4 and then setup however you like. Done and done.

Also, just put 1.3.1 over 1.3.0 and no issues at all here. I honestly was not having any issues with 1.3.0 but I like to stay current. What I love about Apex is that since the leak came out I've been able to just install each new version without wiping so no having to reset everything and the rom is amazing fast. Only had to reset when the .340 OTA came out but that is par the course.

wifi

This Rom is amazing!!!!! First I've flashed on Droid X and probably the only I will use. Donation coming soon. Running 1.3.0. Will upgrade to 1.3.1 later today. Only problem I had is with my wifi. I can't detect wifi nor find my own. Wouldn't be a problem but I use free wifi in different locations when they are available (school, work, public places, maybe my neighbors when mine acts up lol). Any fixes or with 1.3.1 fix that for me? Everything else is flawless. New to the forum and I am SOOO SORRY if this issues was addressed already. With work, wife, kids, school, I don't have time to go through 40 pages of post. Anyones help would be highly appreciated!!!!

Might be something in your settings because I have 0 issues connecting to wifi. Try loading 1.3.1 and see if it still persists tho. All else fails a full wipe/re-install might be in order.

That's funny how you solved the voice commands thing. I was going to post that up today because I tested the same thing last night.

On 1.3.0, I removed voice commands, fought through all of the force close notices to restart, then installed Voice Dialer.

To my delight, that worked perfectly.

Then today I go to post that and see the new version. I checked out the zip and what do I see in the /system/app folder.....Voice Dialer in place of Voice Commands.

Great job. I'm happy this is built in so that I don't have to fight off the swarm of force closes after removing voice commands.

Loving 1.3.1...Thanks

Fab - awesome update! I went ahead and wiped data/cache bc that's just how I roll. so far -so very good. thanks for all you do.

@all Apex users - On another note - I see that Drod's followers started a Christmas fund to show their appreciation. I don't think we should let those Rubix cats outclass us. So make sure you hit up Fab with a little Christmas bonus.

start rant

And don't give me that bullcrap, "I am just so poor right now that I could only afford the best smart phone on the market that requires a $30 a month extra for data plan." If you were that poor you could have bought a Boost flip phone -but you didn't. All you "poor collage students" -you know you are either going to buy a Red Bull today, a Starbucks, or a 6 pack of BL. If everyone would at least give a $1 dollar that would be awesome!

end rant.

thanks guys.

I actually liked the other Nexus S type wallpaper with the carbon fiber type background in the previous version. New ones are pretty laggy.

Wow is all I can say. This is the fastest smoothest rom I've installed. My phone is like a different better phone. I'm hooked.

Installed with no issues coming right from Tranquility 3.6. I haven't run any of the scripts yet but I'm going to mess around later today.

Wow.
