[ROM] ApeX 1.3.1 for Droid X - Running, running, as fast as it can (12/16/10)

Better GB Keyboard?

I think the attached gingerbread keyboard port is a bit better than the one in Apex. The buttons are resized to be really close to the stock multitouch keyboard.

I actually pulled this out of the GummyJar 1.8.1 rom from kejar31 over at xda-developers.

I packaged it up into a nice zip file that should install from recovery. You could also extract the LatinIME.apk and libjni_latinime.so files and just overwrite the ones in /system/app and /system/lib respectively if you don't want to reboot. You'll need to be sure to chmod both to 644 also.

Anyway, use it if you want. I like it better and haven't had to do any tweaks to lcd density at all.

Whoa, that is much better! Sweet, thanks for this ;)

No problem. That's what I do. I make my own frankenstein roms by picking and choosing features I find laying around.

Wow is all I can say. This is the fastest smoothest rom I've installed. My phone is like a different better phone. I'm hooked.

Installed with no issues coming right from Tranquility 3.6. I haven't run any of the scripts yet but I'm going to mess around later today.

Wow.

What method did you use to install this coming from Tran Q 3.6?

Can we just go into recovery and install from zip on this?

What would be the process for this? Do I download onto SD, reboot into recovery via bootstrap and then install zip from sd card? Thanks

What does installing a keyboard that some other guy posted have to do with the original post? Poor guy has 20 posts and is probably completely overwhelmed with the information here as I was when I first started playing with this stuff. It's close to impossible to keep up with it sometimes and there is the newb fear one wrong move will trash our phones.

Simple answer: YES! :)

No need for hostility guys :D

I actually made the update to the instructions in the 2nd post but forgot to post that I changed them. Here's the instructions:

Fabolous said:
Goodies - Install these the same way you did the ROM, but don't wipe.

Much improved Gingerbread keyboard (with bigger keys) - credit to kejar31:

GoodGB_KB.zip

And again, thanks to kejar31 for this fix. It's pretty awesome!

Now, do I use SwiftKey or this...decisions :p
