Swype Android Beta!!

How long did it take you guys to get the email with the link for the beta version?

You may have misspelled your e-mail address etc. If you can't log in try registering again and be sure to use the correct e-mail address that you use on your phone.

BTW, I just registered again with a different e-mail address and got the confirmation e-mail in seconds..SO they for sure haven't ended the beta offering yet.

I dont use the softkeyboard often cause of the milestone hw keyboard but i will test it out cause the standard soft keyboard isnt that good.

Make sure your junk mail filter isn't catching it. I know that's a long shot, but you'd be surprised what it's snatched of mine before!

Holy crap I feel like an idiot. Thnx man. I work tech support at my job and people always tell me they don't get our companie's emails... I always have to tell them to look in the junk box and here I am not even doing it myself.

Here's another possible problem. If you're using an input method with auto-capitalization, it's possible that when you enter your password it will capitalize the first letter without you noticing it. The login is case sensitive so it may create a mismatch.

My trial expired this morning. I'm running Smoked Glass 5.0.1. and still cant get it to work. I mounted the SD card, did a search for Swype and deleted all files. Then I downloaded the file from the link, went to Root Explorer and ran the apk. It still says "can not download, a previous version exists. Uninstall..blah blah blah." Anyone find a workaround?

Same here... any ideas??

Go to menu then about phone then to manage applications and uninstall it from there

Here's one. Take the various problems with trying to run Swype (and other apps) in hacked versions of the operating system to the Android Hacks forum. No offense, but when you've modified the o/s it's understandable that vanilla applications would not necessarily install or run correctly.

That's the price you pay for the benefits of modifying the o/s.

I saw a few people in this thread running the same rom as me so I figured they might have a solution.

^^ don't feel bad about asking dude, same thing happened to me on a different ROM, but I think it has less to do with being rooted than the fact that I was running the first leaked version (even before I was rooted, thx) and probably have a backup of it lingering somewhere that's messing with it.

If it doesn't work, there's already 3 other alternatives on the market so I'm not too worried about it though.

ok i got it installed, and it said "the swype package is configured for another device and will operate with limited functionality" and i tried using it and it wouldn't even work

My Droid is not rooted. I installed beta Swype last night (had issues, but got it working) and all was good this morning. Just now, I clicked on xscope (my default browser) and the favorites page is gone. I shut down my droid and pulled the battery and when i turned it back on I got the same message that you stated above. I tried to text using swype and got nothing but a beep. I uninstalled beta swype. will try to install the leaked version again. good grief.

My Droid is not rooted either. I was using the leaked version from the onset, but scrapped it in hopes this new one would have better functionality. I'm sorry I deleted it.

I downloaded it through the stock browser and, like you, I can't get it to do anything more than "beep" at me. I'm looking at reinstalling the "leaked" version again as well. Not happy with this outcome.

As I said, "no offense." And I simply picked on you as the latest person to raise the issue. The fact is, though, that when you "root" and modify the o/s, there are all sorts of issues raised in terms of installing software specifically designed for a generic version of the o/s. If you're not prepared to put up with those issues, stick with the supported version of the o/s.
