Thunderbolt delayed

sigh... im a little confused... does this mean that bb is still releasing it on the 14th? and verizon is later (which we already know)???

It's not official i mean when i was in bestbuy i was talking to a verizon rep (the most awesome rep ever that got her supervisors two boost my new every two from July to now because i'm such a valued customer :D ) she did talk a lil about BB's exclusivity even over Verizon stores... so who knows.. but if the date did change im just going to be annoyed and wait for the bionic lol

Look at it this way VZW is scratching Best Buys back and BB is scratching VZW's back.

I'm pretty confident the TB will be released on the 14th at Best Buy ONLY. So Best Buy gets the handset sales and Verizon gets the contracts. They still have the iPhone in their corner so they will simply wait until that "slows down" then make the TB available shortly after. People want a TB go to Best Buy. VZW doesn't make any money on the handset anyway so what do they care. They get a nice contract out of the deal and BB gets a sale. Win win

It's a collaboration between Best Buy and VZW. Everybody wins.....makes sense to me at least : )

Spoke to BB. They say that their exclusive status means they are the only retail outlet for the Thunderbolt at launch. Verizon stores will not sell the TB until some preset time after the release.

I really hope that's what's going on. The second this "TB delayed" stuff started that popped into my head. Just hope we're right.

Although no one here knows the real answer, this makes a lot of sense to me. Release the TB on the date desired, but do it at BB so that it doesn't interfere with iphone sales at Verizon stores. Verizon sells more iphones and BB gets a lot of customers into their stores.

I'm pretty confident this is the case. People that pre-ordered it at Best Buy will get their device on the 14th just don't expect it to be available at Verizon is all

I wonder if VZW won't start off-loading more launches to BB and the like (I think the DX also launched for pre-order at BB).

Makes sense, less business risk from bloated inventory if you push a good bit of that off on BB. All VZW really needs is to have phones on hand to play with and then a few days of inventory after the launch rush subsides.

if the iphone IS the reason for the delay, it's a poor excuse. they can't handle 2 phone releases within a week???? REALLY??? the big mighty verizon can't handle it??? BS!!! i don't buy it.

Corporate Verizon can easily handle it, but not the corporate Verizon stores. Many of the stores are relatively small. I have seen our 2 local stores packed with people on a weekend when there were no new phones being introduced. The wait to talk with someone was 10 or 15 minutes. Imagine what the wait would be if the iphone and TB were being introduced on the same day. Remember the lines outside of some AT&T stores when a new iphone comes out.

Starting with the dissapointing news around CES that this was only going to be a slightly upgraded desire hd, then the questionable data pricing, and finally the delay of launch at brick and mortar stores, which is all confounded by the beastly HTC pyramid... my Att contract doesn't end until July anyways, so I'm just going to suck it up and wait for what I have been waiting for all along. A dual core, high res, LTE equipped, full launch bays of RAM toting super phone, which the tb should have been in te first place. So dissapointed, my old 3GS looks like it's just going to have to work for at least another 6 months. :icon_evil:
