Thunderbolt General Discussion - This is Not A Release Date Discussion

You know whats even more rediculous, the fact that they can make a solid release date for the Crapple Ipad 2 which isnt even a friggen cell phone, yet they cant make a date for their first 4g cell. On top of that, the ipad2 probably was what pushed back the phone even further.

That's what I was thinking when I went on VZW website earlier today...they just announced the iPad 2 and it will already be on sale this week...the Thunder-ON-HOLD, although not officially annouced, still has no release date. But let's keep advertising for it...I just don't get it...

I was gonna pull the trigger on the TB. I would have to pay full price though being as i just renewed to get a NE2 one last time. Decided though that this is NOT the phone i want.

Likely it will be the last single core processor phone (especially a 4G phone). I know by the end of the year the dual cores will be out or near out in the wild. After taking into consideration of getting into another 2 contract and paying full price in the first place, i would be stupid to get it. Would be nice to have for 6 months but thats about it.

To be honest, I'm pretty much over this phone...I thought it was bad that I had to wait 6 weeks for the car that I ordered...but this is pretty incredible. My VZW guy said that he just wishes it would come out already so people stop asking about it.

I won't have 4g til later this year or early next, so that's not a selling point for me. I am still on my original OG droid (never had any replacements *knock on wood*) and it's still going strong!! Oh well...on to the next...

This. The phone obviously has issues and the price has gone up $50 since it was first not-announced. I complain about my OG droid, but the truth is we are lucky to not be in the enV touch / storm 1 Boat that some people here are in while we wait for this whole thing to unfold.

i'm in the env boat. well sort of until i dropped it in water. now i'm using an even crappier phone. i'm beginning to think i should just get an incredible or x until this phone comes out. i'm going on vacation for a few days at the end of march and was counting on having the TB, now i'm beginning to think i won't even have it. the longer they wait for this to come out, the more people aren't going to get it (waiting for bionic, questioning if the tb will have issues, etc).

I can kinda see where your coming from, but I don't really see dual cores making a big difference any time soon. There are not many games that take advantage of dual core now, and probably not that many in the works. Maybe some in the early planning stages, but none of the smaller devs will bother anytime soon till the dual core situation settles down a bit and they see where things are headed.

I could be wrong, but I just don't see dual cores doing anything all that special before this time next year. Sure there will be lots of dual core phones dropping this year, but software always lags FAR behind hardware.

I'll have to call my brother tonight. He works for GLU (actually did most of the art for Gun Bros) and see if dual core is even on their radar at this point.

I'm seeing commercials much more often, and it's making me pretty excited. Anybody know if Swype's gonna be preloaded? Transitioning from a D2 keyboard might prove difficult otherwise.

No way to know for sure. I will say that when I bought my inspire 4g a few weeks ago, it was not preloaded, and it was not available in the market either. And I STILL did not see it when I re-enabled 3rd party app downloading. Last I heard, swype's latest release is still in beta. Non-at&t users can go to their website and sign up for it, then download a beta version to their device. I doubt the blunderbolt will come with it pre-installed, but it is easy to get nonetheless.

Swype will not come pre-loaded on the TB. And it is not in the Android market right now either. There are at least 2 quick text alternatives available though, SlideIT and Swiftkey. I think you can get the beta version of Swype online though if you search for it.

AFAIK, the only phones that come pre-loaded with Swype are the Android phones by Samsung. That said, someone posted a link to download and install the Swype beta somwhere in the Demo thread.

Just because you heard it somewhere does not make it so or provide proof. I had also read a spec sheet comparing iPhone, TB, and Bionic that had Swype included for the TB and Bionic, but now I believe that it will not come on the TB out of the box.

Thats a good point to I saw it on that spec sheet.. Wasn't that official? But I could of sworn I saw the guy use out in one of those reviews from wire fly..
