Verizon Set to Alter their Upgrade Policy

Yeah an early upgrade. But you only get one of those per account for the life of the account according to their policy. Sure there's probably ways around it by complaining a lot, but im just talking about their standard practice. My upgrade date is october 2011 and I guarantee you that won't change in february without some salesman forcing an early upgrade.

One early upgrade per life of the account? Nope. Been getting one every year. They are funny about the wording, but I haven't gone more than thirteen months max between getting phones on discount with my two year plan.

Course looks like that's about to change.

On family plans they frequently allow the primary line to upgrade early, this may be the case for you. As for me, I'm not the primary so I'm supposed to wait til october. I'm on my parents plan. they've had verizon with 4 lines for over 12 years now...bills always paid on time...we have yet to get any breaks out of the ordinary :/ lucky for me though, the three other lines on the account are all eligible for an upgrade now. Im just waiting on an LTE phone to come out to snatch one of those upgrades.

Well, call me old fashioned, but what's the big deal about keeping a phone for two years? I'm amazed that so many people still have tons of money to throw around every time a new phone hits the market.

Thanks to ebay you can sell your phone and recoup some of the costs.

thats what i do...i make SURE i get a replacement from VZW right before i get a new one, sell it on ebay and make 1/2 - 3/4 the money back that im spending on a new phone. works good, but still this is gonna be terrible and people are gonna be HEATEDDD! (me included)

This will force companies like Samsung to support their phones and we spend less money on getting a new phone just so we can get updates. WIN!

Either that or they're going to tell you "We no longer serve that phone, looks like you have to pay full retail to get a new one"

Why would they make an announcement like this 2 days before CES???? Sounds like they're shooting themselves in the foot.

It's just a tactic for them to have a reason to not have any 4g LTE devices ready before summer 2011. They don't want to be caught lying saying their comercials are frauds like Tmobile by saying they have the biggest 4g network when they have no phones out for it. What better way to do that than say "hey... right now we're transitioning by making plans better for our new 4g model phones".

If I am eligible for an early upgrade now will this affect me? I am not ready to use it.

I am eligible for an upgrade as of the 2nd. I am thinking since we are already eligible for an upgrade this should not affect us this time around.

You are grandfathered in. Its for contracts after the 16th. I plan on getting my new phone probably after seeing the CES.

i have a question if my date to actual upgrade is 11/22/11 since i am past the 13th month mark what should i do to get a early upgrade if i just go in and ask for an early upgrade to the fascinate will it work or what

Do other phone companies have this only discount every 13-24 months bu1$h!t? Can you get a phone at at&t, sprint or tmobile at a reasonable price? I like how everyone from time warner to verizon to energy providers are screwing us out of our money these days.

Im ready for an upgrade now so if I cant get my upgrade after the 16th then I hope the new phones come out before Feb 16th so I can upgrade on the 16th of Jan then I have 30 days to return the phone so I'll return the phone when the new ones come out and then get the new phone.

You could give it a shot... but if you do get an upgrade, try for a one-year contract... this way you'll be good to go for next year's CES... lol.

Well I'm pissed! I called VZW of course they "claim" to have no idea what I'm taking about. Stating it must be a rumor. The fact that annual upgrades are going away is another attempt to get people to upgrade less and there for they lose less on the subsidiary price. They DON'T WANT existing customer to upgrade. If a customer has a old 1-2 yr old phone, they don't care. If the customer pays the bill that's all that matters.

i know CES is the 6th and i will go Saturday so if anything shows up i might wait but hopefully what ever they display comes out on the 16tg
