Second Android Update 2.2 Froyo (FRG22 Rolling) Out Now

Ok, being a noob I could use some clarification. I'm rooted with stock Froyo and a P3 kernel. If I want to accept the FRG22D OTA do I have to return to restore the stock kernel and unroot?
This should do it for you. Just wait for a rooted update.

Now there is the million dollar question. Will there be a rooted stock frg22D? With the latest bout of C & D's orders out there, will anyone be able to host the file? To date we have really just had CZ letting out the release to P3 and Pete, which relatively quickly resulted in a deodexed version for those of us wanting to play closer to stock. This will be interesting to see who "rastles" with this new file, and whether there will be any ramifications for whomever does the posting/hosting.

I did notice that CVPCS has updated his git hub to incorporate, but on that front his rom watch starts. Pete has been a little thin lately. All in all, these are certainly complicated times for us root users.

This is exactly my concern and why I posted earlier about returning to stock and unrooting. Given the current C&D climate, I think it will take some time before we get a rooted version of FRG22D. I can easily undo something I have. But, it is hard to do anything if it is not available in a rooted form.

Release candidates and leaked builds are one thing. Official updates are another. Mix in the root and we have to consider the fact that this is still open-source software. Once it's out there, it's out there.

Stock. Droids are running at 800mhz? D1s?

Linux requires 800MHz in processor speed to run Flash. Nuff said.

So i got this this morning. and i noticed it was only like 45mb so i thought it might be the new update. but since iam rooted it doesn't install so i thought i'd just wait till everyone else chimed in.

What's your build? If it's not FRG01B then what you got was the original update.

J,

Honestly, there is not a darn thing wrong with my phone running the original leaked FRG22. But, CVPS seems to know his stuff, and he saw enough to want to incorporate. I live and die with gps and wifi, so the info that there may be some enhancements tends to get my ear. No way I am going to unroot and bet that come, but it is still a little frustrating knowing that I may be moved from cutting edge to trailing edge by the ota. Oh wait, I am still rooted and running a custom theme, so perhaps I am not as bad off as I make it out:)

Craig

im guessing if you take the ota update and get unrooted frg22d youll still be able to flash back to 2.0.1 or 2.1 or something using rsd lite to get root back?

Would frg22d really be worth it to loose root? you get flash from the market and added security whats the big deal?
That's your decision. I say no, but I'm running a custom ROM that makes stock look sick.

Sorry Hook, it's the truth. :D

I don't have any problems with anybody running a custom ROM. I may be forced to run one soon. I just think custom ROMs are a circus with the devs and the fanboy stuff. Its something I don't want to get involved in.

I would not think for this update that it would be smart to remove root.

what about people who already manually installed frg22? i searched the market and flash player is not available...i already have it installed though but id like to have it from the market so i could get updates if any...

you installed frg22.

The VZW page about the update shows it to be frg22d, which would be a totally seperate build. In other words, newer than straight frg22.
