Second Android Update 2.2 Froyo (FRG22 Rolling) Out Now

I wonder if the Droid 2 keeps all of it's Froyo-promised features.

Droid 2 has Wifi hotspot, yes.

But this was never officially "promised" to anyone for any specific device. It was simply a feature that could be implemented with Froyo, which is all Google meant when they announced it. It means that the kernel is capable of supporting the app, should the carrier choose to implement it (and the hardware fully supports it).

The problem with the Droid 1 is that the Wifi chipset doesn't officially support a wifi hotspot feature. Wifi tether works, but that sets up an ad-hoc network; not an infrastructure network. Ad-hoc works fine with about 90% of the devices on the market, however, the remaining 10% are out of luck. In order to be a TRUE wifi hotspot, the device should be capable of acting like a true wifi router. Since the Droid 1 is not, the feature is not included. The Droid 2's newer 802.11n capable wifi chipset is capable of infrastructure mode, and thus the feature is there.

my droid is currently being fixed by best buy. it busted as i received the FroYo update.

dumb question. does it matter that i probably wont receive the first update? will the second update contain all the bells and whistles that the first one had?

I was just joshing you. I happen to agree with you on a lot of it. I get so sick of listening to UD fans spout about how great their ROM is and then whine about getting the OTA update push, and then listen to BB fans whine about how long it's been since their toy was updated, and yet none of them seem willing to budge to another ROM.

Anyway, as to removing root -- whatever for? This is such a tiny update it's plain NOT worth it.

You'll get the first update first. This update is ONLY A TINY UPDATE AND ONLY FOR PHONES ALREADY RUNNING FRG01B.

I'm guessing it wont be long till there is a file for us rooted users to dl to ugrade us to this new build. My question is will it be a patch file that will just upgrade us while keeping root? Or will it be a full rom with root requiring a wipe?

if you wait long enough im sure an upgrade will be available w/o wipe, also the improvements really arent worth wiping for.

Well, good question. Let me take a look...

...crap, you're right. I didn't look closely at the update message, and assumed it was FRG22D. I just took a look at the cache and it appears to be a new copy of the 1st OTA (about 80MB). That's strange because I already "accepted" it last week (install failed of course) and then deleted it from the cache. Must have downloaded again!

People don't get to excited there is really nothing exciting about this update. Its a couple files with updated GPS and Wi-Fi drivers and also the already covered market/flash ability.

Its not going to do much else. If your hoping on it improving the overall performance of the device you will be disappointed.

i doubt that is frg22d it is a very small change i doubt it will be that big
