Verizon Set to Alter their Upgrade Policy

Didnt hear anything come out of my mouth lol...

Maybe you should read up more about Bestbuys insurance policy... ;)

That's called Insurance Fraud my friend. If you phone breaks "legitimately" and BestBuy CHOOSES to replace it for another model that's their prerogative. But "purposely" damaging your phone to get a replacement is wrong! I don't care who you are. Verizon warranty or Best Buy.

Slow your roll kid, dont have a nervous breakdown on me who said anything about purposely breaking my phone?

No, thats just you assuming.

I think most thought you were speaking of fraud. Lets just move on, ok? I ain't a kid either.

as long as I'm grandfathered in with my Annual upgrade (as it's already available I've just been waiting for a worthy device) I'm ok for now. I will only be signing 1 yr contracts from now on however.

It is what it is, and we must make the most of the options available.

I've got a friend who thinks VZW may be planning to drop 2 yr pricing all together and do just 1 year contracts at higher subsidized pricing.

I don't know about this. You could be waiting a while after 1/16

As far as we know now, they're not removing the annual upgrade from those that are already eligible, but they will not be offering it any more (after Jan 16th if you sign a new contract or are not already eligible)

Alrighty, the insurance talk has run it's course, back on topic folks!

Thank you!

It says that people who already have an annual upgrade of NE2 will be able to use it. It doesn't matter when you use it, you can still use it at least one more time. If you use it before the new policy starts then you will be able to get another one. If you use it after the new policy starts then once you use it that'll be your last time and you'll get a letter letting you know it too.

To get out of the 2 yr cycle.... let your 2 yrs expire and then only sign 1 yr agreements.... or if you're less than 12 months from the end of you 2 yr agreement you might be able to switch to a 1 yr, but I'm not sure.

Thanks for the explanation. I'm going to try to add 1-yr to my contract and get the 1-yr contract phone price...eccchhh, that's still going to leave me with 18-20 months before that 1-yr will expire. Otherwise I'll have to look into more weasley options like ETF or tacking on a family member and then taking their upgrade.

That's my plan. Once my 2 year contract runs it's course. I'm moving to a 1 year contract. Of course (just grasping at straws) this also might be in VZW's master plan anyway. Get everyone to get 1 year plans but pay more than a phone at 2 year. Makes more since since phone's life span is less than 1 year anyway.

I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility to see VZW do away with 2 yr agreements and only offer 1 yr agreements, but at a higher subsidized price for devices....

then again, doing away with the 2 yr agreement shortens contract life spans, which isn't something I see VZW wanting to do. Longer contracts = more guaranteed money.

time will tell.

Yea...idk about this. My parents always go on about how VZ wants to have you locked into a contract for as long as possible, as it means more money for them.. i dont see how 1 year contracts would help them with this. Either way i am prolly going to be 1 year contract when my 2yr runs out. Ill pay the $70 not to be locked in.

Why do people think that we'll be paying full retail pricing for a new phone when we are eligible to upgrade. It is saying no more early upgrades before 20 months. There will no longer be the extra savings on a phone on the primary line. Who's to say VZW won't offer deeper discounts on their phones? The competition makes you wait 2 years, not 20 months to upgrade. The 20 month upgrade feature stays in place.

I think people are saying they'll end up paying full retail because they can't stay with phones for 2 years. At least that's what I think they're saying. LOL

True. But I can't afford to pay retail. So I will be hanging on til my 2 yrs are up.

Just thought I would put this out there:

Sprint offers a one year upgrade on the primary line of an Everything Data plan, and they don't have a cap on their 4g service.

I'll either just go back to Tmobile or puchase off contract on ebay only (bought my fascinate for $300 a month ago and did not extend my contract) . CES will help me plan my next step.

So if one were wanting out of their contract w/o paying an early cancellation penalty it would seem this is the way out since they're making a change to your contract which negatively affects you as the end user, no?
